Work opportunities at Area 43 (Cardigan Youth Project). A charity, which runs a Drop-in Centre in Cardigan, providing information, support & training to young people aged 16-25 & counselling services to those aged 10-30. Developing and providing a broad range of support services for young people, our aims are to: Enable children and young people to develop self-esteem and a positive approach to their lives and their place in society. To encourage them to participate in learning experiences and decision-making processes that impact their lives and their communities. Address and combat the problems they face in their home circumstances, relationships, social and life experiences, paying particular attention to those challenged by homelessness, unemployment, substance/alcohol misuse, criminality and discrimination. We are especially interested in working with those who are socially, educationally, economically or geographically disadvantaged or have any sort of disability. Provide young people with real learning opportunities both formal and informal that encourage and allow them to fulfill their potential. I have over 20 years of experience; as a Primary Teacher, working and managing teams in Youth Justice, supporting schools as both an Education Safeguarding Advisor and LADO (responding to allegations against staff), most recently as a Virtual School Head focusing on Children Looked After and Previously Looked After. I can support the adults in your early years setting, school, alternative education provision, or sports or activity club to ensure that they can best respond to the needs of the children in their care. At Fight for Peace young people make friends, get fit, and develop their interests, skills, and confidence. Our aim is to ensure young people achieve their full potential in life, and we welcome any young person from our communities aged 7-25 years old. We embrace the power of sport for the life lessons it teaches, such as resilience and discipline, as well as improved health and wellbeing. And we combine this with one-to-one mentoring conversations with qualified youth workers, personal development sessions, and education and employability support. Young leaders also shape our services, being part of staff recruitment and strategy development, producing communications, and progressing to employed roles as ‘Next Gen’ staff. We support around 500 young people per year at our Academy in east London and, in order to reach as many young people as possible, we train and work with like minded community partners across the UK and the world - something we call the Fight for Peace Alliance. We also coordinate Collectives in east London and Jamaica to bring together diverse partners from across communities in support of young people. It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to our website and our school. William Edwards is a large, successful, harmonious and thriving mixed 11-16 comprehensive school. Pupil outcomes across the school are historically strong. However, attending William Edwards is about so much more than just GCSE outcomes. We firmly believe that your school days should be the best days of your life and that schools have a moral purpose to extend the life experiences of their pupils. That is why we boast the largest Duke of Edinburgh cohort of any school in the East of England and are one of only a very small number of secondary schools nationally to hold both the Artsmark Platinum Award and the Youth Sports Trust Gold Award for our work in these diverse fields. We were delighted that our last inspection report noted that “pupils who spoke to inspectors were effusive about their experience in school” and that “the breadth of curriculum opportunities available at the school is a real ‘gem’ in the school’s offer to its pupils”. The school is a proud founding member of the South West Essex Community Education Trust which runs three secondary schools and three primary schools across Thurrock and the London Borough of Havering. We were delighted that our last Ofsted inspection captured our considerable strengths in teaching, pastoral care, behaviour, pupil support and curriculum. We are pleased that these ‘cornerstones’ of high quality education remain strong at the school.
