We strive to fulfil our school motto ‘Make the Future Better for All’ in all that we do and are incredibly proud of our school and its pupils, who are supported by a dedicated, committed and caring staff team. Since 1961, our small school has steadily grown into a large one of 14 classes located on an attractive and spacious campus with many excellent facilities. The school boasts a rich ethnic mix and we are proud to teach the children to celebrate diversity in all its forms. We promote an age-appropriate awareness of the protected characteristics and encourage the children not to be bystanders but to stand up for what is right. If I had to describe our school in a few words I would say it is a’ hive of activity’; many visitors often comment positively on the range of learning opportunities evident in our school. We encourage all children to take an active part in their learning, through the context of a broad and engaging curriculum. In addition to this, we place a strong emphasis on curriculum enrichment, offering many experiences, clubs, teams and visits to support learning. We want to develop a love of learning, interests and skills which are lifelong. Situated in the heart of the community of Driffield, we are a unique and special place to learn. ‘Learning for Life’ is the foundation of all we do at Kings Mill and underpins our whole curriculum from Early Years through to Sixth form. The school caters for pupils aged 2-19 years. We are on two sites. The main school site houses Early Years through to Key Stage 4. The school was completed in May 2017 and has been purpose built to meet the needs of our pupils. Alongside eleven new classrooms we also have a new hydrotherapy pool, rebound room, sensory therapy room and sensory rooms. Students aged 16-19 are based at The Kings Mill Student Centre which is based at Driffield Secondary School approximately a mile away from the main site. This comprises three classrooms and a combined common room and food technology area. There is also opportunity for joint working with Driffield School. Our sixth form students also visit main site to access the facilities as required. All our pupils and students have complex needs and we offer specialist provision for pupils on the autistic spectrum and pupils with multi-sensory needs. Our curriculum principles and ethos are supported by a wide range of activities which happen on and off site. Sport plays a very important role in the life of the school and we believe in encouraging healthy competition and leadership skills. Our aim is to provide a safe and stimulating environment where students are encouraged to maximise and reach their potential, whether it be working on their weaknesses or building on their strengths. Voluntary Action North Lincolnshire (VANL) is a Registered Charity and a Company Limited by Guarantee, governed by a Memorandum and Articles of Association adopted on 19th March 1997, amended on 7th October 2004 and again on 4th October 2007. The date of Incorporation was 1st April 1997. A Board of Trustees (15 in total) directs the policy and management of VANL. The members of the Board are Directors of the Company for the purpose of charity law. They are elected from the membership, or can be self-nominated as individual representatives if they have specialist skills that will complement the make-up of the Board, to serve for three years. They can also be co-opted annually if there are vacancies. VANL’s purposes are the advancement of education, the protection of health and the relief of poverty, distress and sickness. These aims are pursued by bringing together voluntary and statutory organisations in Council and by encouraging co-operation between organisations. VANL is a Council for Voluntary Service (CVS). Its core work is to support, promote and develop the voluntary and community sector (VCS) within North Lincolnshire. As well as its core activities for members, at any one time VANL manages a variety of projects running on both a small and large scale. VANL needs to evidence its work in five key areas, these are: Services and support to promote VCS effectiveness: ranging from typing and duplicating facilities to advice on charitable, organisational and funding matters, and community accountancy. Liaison: encouraging networking between groups within the sector and between the VCS and statutory and private sectors. Representation: through facilitating forums and other groups to ensure views are put forward on local policies. Development work: identifying gaps in service provision and working with the VCS groups to develop new services to meet those needs.
