This is due to the fact that a whole industry has developed to supply a service to traders over a long period of time, and the independent cargo surveyor is a respected member of the community of traders. The nomination of the surveyor or inspection company may be made by either party in agreement with the other but the degree of inspection is mainly a commercial decision that is influenced by the buyer/trader&rsquo;s evaluation of the seller. The parties agree in most commercial transactions that quality and quantity are determined "final at loading", draught surveys are therefore frequently used to reduce trade risks and avoid frauds, abuses of trade incentives and other situations or events which are likely to, or potentially may, give rise to a claim that could have serious financial consequences. They have been accepted to be reasonably accurate and convenient means of establishing the weight of the cargo shipped on board vessels in bulk form. However, to obtain a certain reasonable degree of accuracy in the draught survey it is important that careful attention be paid to the details during this process. Any unusual circumstances that may arise should be handled in a proper and diligent manner and although it is difficult to quantify the extent of errors likely to occur in a draught survey, the reliability of the results depends entirely upon the care, skill, and devotion exercised by the attending surveyor. LOOKING FOR: NON-FICTION
Eli Keren started his publishing career at Curtis Brown before joining United Agents as an assistant in 2016. In 2021 he became an associate literary agent, representing a growing list of clients across fiction and non-fiction, actively seeking books that are going to make a positive impact in the world in some way, big or small. His role as an agent at Curious Minds Literary Agency began in 2024. Before working in books, Eli was a research scientist designing and synthesising novel drugs (white coat and everything), and science books remain a particular passion of his. In 2022 he wrote and taught a HOW TO WRITE A PROPOSAL course, and in 2023 was elected treasurer of the Association of Authors’ Agents, and in 2024 he judged the inaugural Bloomsbury Academic Writing Fellowship. 
Eli specialises in helping academics, scientists and researchers to bring their area of expertise to the mass-market in authoritative, ideas-led books in the fields of smart science and current affairs. He is particularly interested in popular science and cultural history, as well as issues-led books and social justice. Eli only occasionally works with memoir.

What is your refund policy?
We can accept cancellations up until 48 hours before we begin. We regret, as we are a small CIC, that we cannot take cancellations via email but ask that you log into Eventbrite to cancel your ticket should it be necessary.
Do I need any special equipment?
No, you need something to take a photograph on, a valid email address and a strong internet connection so that we can communicate over zoom. You would benefit from downloading an app called www.padlet.com to your device but this is not essential. The extension project is entirely optional.
What happens after the week long project is finished?
You will be invited into a community project or if you live in North Yorkshire you might like to book a 1:1 session with me. Personalised sessions start at £49:99 per person.
Do I have to be a photographer?
Absolutely not, we assume no prior experience of photography.
Is this like therapy?
We are not therapists but the process has a gentle and calming effect upon your wellbeing. We will be engaging in simple tasks to encourage mindfulness. We do ask that you are well and happy to engage in a small group session online. We embody respect in our work and we ask that you do the same.
Will you be using my images?
We never share your images unless you specifically ask for us to. Your image and copyright remains your own.
Can I share your lesson content?

LOOKING FOR: ADULT FICTION, NON-FICTION
Kate Walsh has built up many years of agenting experience across her own list, and another senior agent's list at United Agents for 9 years before parting ways and going it alone for a while. Fiction-wise, she works on a hugely broad list for expansive commercial genre fiction and is on the lookout for historical fiction, upmarket women’s fiction, clever commercial thrillers, romance and some SFF, particularly those with a dystopian slant, or earth-bound science fiction, however that comes. Kate will also look at YA, though is not the right fit for high fantasy.On the non-fiction side, Kate has worked with an impressive list of clients across the commercial spectrum. She's on the lookout mainly (although not exclusively) for music titles, history and broad-spectrum popular science, but is open to anything that feels like a fresh and original way of looking at the world. She is especially drawn to 20th and 21st century affairs, and welcomes anything from anyone willing to speculate on what comes next.
