Armed Forces Networks: Sussex and Kent & Medway

The Armed Forces Network (AFN) started in Sussex in 2011 and is a multi-organisational group which includes members from the NHS, MoD, Armed Forces Reservists, Mental and Physical Health Clinicians, the Royal British Legion, SSAFA and other interested charities and organisations from across Sussex (i.e. police and local authorities). In July 2016, this model was rolled out to Kent and Medway and is commissioned by the Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) across both Sussex and Kent & Medway. The members work together to improve the lives of the Armed Forces community (ex and serving personnel and their immediate families). The AFN also includes Service Champions from a wide range of the organisations across both counties who are advocates for the Armed Forces community and have the skills and knowledge to support through direct service provision, linking with other organisations or signposting to where additional support could be received. It is managed by the Armed Forces Director for both Sussex and Kent & Medway ICBs. Each Network aims to facilitate the ICBs and the local community in the delivery of the Armed Forces Covenant Commitment and the Armed Forces Act 2021. In November 2014, the AFN won a National Military and Civilian Health Partnership Award for its work on education, training and research with local military personnel. The AFN was commended for its work on developing a unique set of relationships to ensure organisations are identifying and meeting the specific needs of the Armed Forces community through local health and care services. The Support Team has continued to develop and deliver a range of resources, many of which are contained within this website. These included a wide range of CPD and other accredited courses, factsheets, flip tools of contacts, topic area specific pathways. This continued growth has been recognised in the national Soldiering On Awards where the Network was been a finalist for two years and a winner in 2020.

In accordance with the Memorandum and Articles, all Members and Students of the Institute shall in writing undertake to adhere to the following:- (members must note that because an item is not mentioned, it does not mean that it cannot constitute a breach of Ethics). As chiropody/podiatry in the United Kingdom is a legally regulated profession within the scope of the Health Professions Order 2001 (and subsequent amendments) attention is specifically drawn to the provisions of that act and the requirements of the legal entity created for its implementation; the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). The contents of this document should be read in conjunction with the specific legal obligations and requirements placed upon Chiropodists and Podiatrists as registrants of the HCPC. Breaches of such legal requirements would additionally be regarded as breaches of the Institutes own ethical code and be dealt with in the manner laid down for such occurrence. Associates who are not HCPC registrants are still bound by the requirements of ethical, decent and lawful behaviour at all times and are subject to the same sanctions of the Board of Ethics as would apply to a HCPC registrant member. PROFESSIONAL DEFINITION “Chiropody/Podiatry” means the scientific care of the foot and directly related structures of the lower limb in health and disease in line with the best evidential paradigms existing at the time of such care. “Chiropodist/Podiatrist” is a protected professional title recognised in law and may only be used by an individual registered with the HCPC if that practice is within the United Kingdom. It is a criminal offence for such titles to be used by anyone who is not currently so registered even if they possess qualifications which relate to the titles such as diploma, certificates or degrees in chiropody or podiatry or any variation thereof which could be taken to imply they are currently registered as Chiropodists/Podiatrists. Members in practice outside the United Kingdom must comply with any legislation defining titles and their use that are applicable in their country of operation.

Hey, I am Nisi, and for those that are wondering ‘Yirdlins’ is Scots for ‘Earthwards’ or to ‘the Earth.’ I teach Hatha Yoga – the union of the Sun (Ha) and the Moon (tha). The aim of Hatha Yoga is to still the mind through postures, pranayama and meditation. But I also find stillness of mind when working with the natural flow of the seasons and being out in nature, hence the name Yirldins. I was first introduced to yoga in 1994. But it wasn’t until 2014, when I started working with a yoga teacher one to one, that my practice developed into something deeper. I began to feel the benefits of doing yoga on and off the mat, developing an innate awareness of emotions in my body. This has allowed me to manage them more effectively to create a sense of calm, both in body and mind. In 2018, I committed to becoming a yoga teacher and signed up for Yoga Scotland‘s Foundation Course (a pre requisite to their teacher training) and in 2019, their 500-hour teacher training course, becoming fully qualified in 2021. I am a qualified Forest School & Outdoor Leader which allows me to take yoga out into mither nature to complement and enrich your yoga experience. I also have an extensive ten-year practice in Further and Higher education leading, developing and delivering courses to both young people and adults. A mental health activist, I have been advocating to change the negative narratives and stigma around mental health for the last decade by combining different disciplines in botanical illustration, photography and woodcraft to highlight the relationship that exists between creativity, nature and mental health. Yoga is another way for me to continue to do so. I hope I can share the beautiful tradition of Hatha Yoga with you, whether that be in a studio setting or out in mither nature. Namaste

It is our sole aim to present this complex scientific information in a non-biased, easy to understand way, so that we can use this technology in a safe manner.Our aim at Wireless Education is to provide everyone everywhere with the information needed to make informed decisions about wireless technology usage and how to reduce levels of microwave radiation exposure. Our e-learning courses are tailor-made for children, parents, teachers and industry professionals who are using wireless technology at school, in the home or in the office. Quite simply we visualise a day when: Children tell their parents to switch off the wireless router or turn their mobile into flight mode, because they learned about the risks at school. Teachers are learning about microwave radiation exposure safety as part of their continued health and safety education. Every parent has easy access to information about the risks of wireless technology and microwave radiation exposure, and is able to make informed decisions about the use of their family’s wireless devices. Cece also worked with her public library to become the first in the nation to host a film series on Electromagnetic Radiation and Health, and to put on loan a microwave radiation detection meter for residents to borrow. She further collaborated with legislators to introduce a number of bills (in Massachusetts and in New Hampshire) addressing wireless radiation and public health, and worked with her Department of Public Health to draft EMF Fact Sheets. Cece is humbled by the opportunity to help educate global citizens through on-line course development and promotion with Wireless Education. Mikko Ahonen (PhD): Trustee, Research & Development Mikko has worked as a researcher at the University of Tampere in Finland and Mid Sweden University for over 20 years. During the past decade Mikko has immersed himself in bioelectromagnetics research. He has written many scientific publications which focus on risk-management of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) in schools and workplaces. Additionally, Mikko has conducted EMF surveys (measurements) and delivered risk management workshops and webinars for both corporate and educational organisations. He also brings experience in educational technology, mobile learning, videoconferencing and information systems.
