We promote and create positive mental health and well-being through the medium of drama and the arts. We are a unique mental health service as our methodology entails a creative edge like no other. We felt then and still do now that this quote perfectly encapsulates what we aim to empower our clients with: we want their words to flow “trippingly off the tongue”, with fluency and fluidityOur company started life back in 1998 when Duncan Holmes (Boo) and Jonathan Bacon formed a partnership and created a course that blended two worlds: the world of business and the world of theatre. One day, having left their jobs at Lloyds of London and a travel company to train at the world-renowned London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, Boo and Jon were reflecting on the challenges common to both worlds and came to the realisation that the business world had a lot to learn from the theatre and vice-versa. Combining their skills and experience from both worlds created the perfect recipe for their first “Power of Speech” course. 20 years later, all our courses and coaches still reflect the subtle combination of these two worlds. Our courses are high-energy and impactful whilst remaining true to the business world of today. This carefully balanced approach is what makes an immediate and noticeable difference.

National Performing Arts Alliance (NPAA) is a dynamic, innovative and inclusive Dance, Drama and Musical Theatre Awarding Organisation partnered with GQAL offering a range of regulated and non-regulated qualifications in a huge range of subjects across Dance, Acting and Musical Theatre. We offer creative, progressive, industry-standard syllabi and assessments to teachers and learners throughout the UK and overseas, focusing on technique, artistry, performance and progression. Created by teachers for teachers, NPAA is led by a team of education and industry professionals who have first – hand experience of teaching performing arts to leaners of all ages in both the private and public sector. The NPAA team place great emphasis on teacher support, training and guidance through provision of online resources/teaching aids, regular workshops, seminars and conferences. Formby School of Dancing and Performing Arts has been established here in the North West for almost fifty years and is recognised as the best in the area. Our Performance Studios at the Victoria Hall, Formby, are second to none; with a beautiful mirrored Dance Studio, complete with ballet barres and a Harlequin dance floor. Our Theatre and Rehearsal Room is equipped with the latest sound and lighting equipment, which we use regularly in our In House shows. We also offer the use of these in our stage awareness and microphone technique lessons, a must for all our future performers (it's also great fun!). Set in its own grounds with ample parking, you could not wish for a safer environment for your children. Principals Hayley Batchelor-Hannah and Alistair Hannah believe that apart from the excellent standard of training in dance, drama and singing, their popularity is also down to the fact that pupils are nurtured and cared for, from the very shy to the more confident. We give them the time to grow not just as performers but as individuals. Children range from 3-18 years are taught in mixed classes and have the option to take exams, compete in festivals and perform in many shows in our very own theatre.

2003, Maths authors and speakers Rob Eastaway and Simon Singh realise that outside London there are almost no public maths events suitable for Year 11s/12s (the two school stages when pupils can opt to drop maths). They organise a lecture event in a hall linked to Manchester University and run two events, morning and afternoon. The aim is to show that there's more to maths than taking exams. About 500 attend in total, but the venue is hot, expensive and not in a convenient location. 2004 Rob Eastaway decides to repeat the event, but this time in a theatre in the centre of Manchester - the Royal Exchange. Not only is the location better, but a theatre with its raked seating, lighting and good acoustics has far more impact than a large hall. Tickets are £5, heavily subsidised by sponsors PwC, so that the event will be affordable for all schools. The event is called Maths Inspiration and our tradition of holding all our events in theatres and concert halls is born. The speakers are Colin Wright, Helen Joyce (later to become a senior editor at The Economist) and Rob Eastaway, with Claire Ellis as compere. Two sell-out shows reach nearly 700 teenagers.

As an artist I work with shared truth and autobiography to create theatre and improvised theatre with a sense of nostalgia that asks how perspective has changed us. I deep dive into genres like storytelling, science fiction and folk horror to create a mood and a washing line of tropes to build my original work around. I either make transient work through long form improvisation or write a script and edit through collaboration and audience reactions. There is always an element of audience involvement - small or large - that changes the piece each time. My artwork retells my personal history, my passions and my fears in a way that allows others to unlock theirs." Katy Schutte is one of the UK's original long form improvisers. She performs and teaches all over the world, is Head Teacher and Course Designer for Hoopla (the UK's largest improv school), was Co-Founder/Director at the International Improv Station and has been one of The Maydays since their founding year in 2004 with stints as Director and Artistic Director. She is half of legendary sci-fi improv duo Project2 and author of The Improviser's Way: A Longform Workbook, which is published by Nick Hern Books. Katy trained at Second City and iO Chicago and with teachers from the Annoyance, UCB, Groundlings, The Magnet and lots of other places. Katy also plays in slow burn longform show Katy and Rach, has toured with Fluxx, improvised musicals with Music Box, The Maydays and Baby Wants Candy, co-created the Destination podcast and has guested in countless shows including Messing with a Friend, Criminal, The Playground, the London and Liverpool Improvathons, Grand Theft Impro, Séance Fiction, Whirled News Tonight and The Armando Diaz Experience. Along with Chris Mead and Tony Harris, she was in the first ever improv show in Virtual Reality and continues to work on the bleeding edge of technology in The Galaxicle Implosions. She has performed in Hoopla's Saturday night shows Tightrope and Speechless, the West End show Yes Queens and toured festivals with WrongCom. Katy is thrilled to be a team member of London queer improv group Hell Yeah! and hip hop improv team Track 96.

Teaching has always been Lian’s passion. At the age of 18 Lian started teaching dance which developed into establishing her own highly successful dance school Learning Curves Dance which she ran for 20 years. Lian has had numerous highlights during her teaching career from choreographing team performances at London theatres including Her Majesty’s Theatre, Sadler’s Wells and The Royal Albert Hall and Birmingham performance venues such as the NEC and the Symphony Hall. She has also travelled with her students overseas to Europe and Asia performing at Disneyland Paris and Beijing Theatre, China. Lian has trained over 500 students for team performances, prepared over 3000 students for 32 IDTA examination sessions and received Freestyle Scholarship Awards nominations for 5 professional candidates and 18 amateur students. She has judged at numerous ADFP Freestyle Dance Competitions, including the prestigious international Disco Kid Competition at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom. Lian was honoured to lecture for the IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association), hosting amateur and professional workshops. She has produced, directed and choreographed over 16 theatre shows, raised over £10,000 for charity, formed the successful Performing Arts Project with sister school StarStruck Performing Arts Academy, taught GCSE dance at Arden School, cultivated successful relationships and taught classes in over 16 Primary and Secondary Schools in Solihull and Warwickshire and launched a second Dance School in Southam, Warwickshire. After further professional development and with a keen interest in anatomy and physiology, Lian qualified to train candidates to professional teacher level. To date she has trained 26 individuals to professional dance teacher status, 5 of whom have received IDTA Scholarship nominations and 1 student who has gained the 2020 John Dilworth Scholarship in the Freestyle category. Now Lian has added yoga to her long list of qualifications and is a Yoga Alliance Professional 250 hour qualified Teacher. Lian enjoys teaching Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga. Lian successfully teaches online and face to face classes. Yoga and dance complement each other beautifully and through her training Lian can bring elements of each discipline to enhance her teaching.
