Islamic Finance Council Uk

Glasgow

The Islamic Finance Council UK (UKIFC) is a specialist advisory and development body focused on promoting and enhancing the global Islamic and ethical finance industry. The organisation was launched in 2005 by a group of like-minded professionals who sought to make a contribution to the development of the new and exciting Islamic finance industry. The founding directors, comprising a banker, an accountant and a lawyer, recognised that it was not within the mandate of their current businesses to invest resources into growing this young and emerging sector. The idea was conceived to establish a not-for-profit organisation which could provide a formal platform for them and others to dedicate their time and expertise, on a pro bono basis, to drive the sector forward. The initial priority of the UKIFC was to support the expansion of the UK consumer retail market where the existing infrastructure was not considered adequate for the Muslim minority population. At the global level the organisation sought to contribute by developing pioneering capacity building programmes for Shariah scholars and encouraging improvements in regulatory policy. In 2018, the UKIFC celebrated its 10th anniversary. Click here to download our souvenir brochure. Since its modest beginnings, the UKIFC has remained committed to its guiding principle of making a tangible, positive impact to the sector. The team has advised governments, authored technical reports, presented at international conferences and developed training programmes which, collectively, have changed global regulation and played a leading role in exploring the relationship between Islamic finance and the broader ethical finance arena.

Cherwell College Oxford

Oxford

CHERWELL COLLEGE OXFORD is located in the heart of Oxford. The College is a leading independent, co-educational, boarding and day school for students aged between 12 and 18 years of age. Cherwell is one of the few colleges focused on bespoke education. Cherwell is one of the few remaining pre-university colleges in Oxford which continue to preserve the very best the British education system has to offer – the tutorial. In an age of continuing uncertainty, young people must be encouraged to ‘think on their feet’ and adapt quickly to the ever-changing political, economic and social situations in the world, which have a direct impact on their lives and academic and career aspirations. Cherwell’s adaptability and bespoke approach to education, delivered via a quintessentially Oxbridge tutorial method of teaching (one-to-one tuition & small group seminars), assists the College in nurturing and developing the individual student’s potential to the full. The format of tuition is discussed at an interview stage and determined by the subject syllabus and the specific needs of the student. This combination of small group and individual tuition ensures comprehensive syllabus coverage, enhanced by student feedback and classroom discussion, while enabling each student to fully understand each topic, and to apply this understanding effectively under examination conditions. Regular progress tests and mock examinations feature in the timetable, particularly important to those students where examination results do not always reflect their true academic potential. Monthly reports, written by each subject tutor, allow parents to closely monitor academic and pastoral progress.

In 2018, I was awarded a research internship where I designed and conducted research into "Understanding Military Spouse/Partners Support Needs and Online help seeking strategies". In 2019 I completed the research project "A thematic analysis of the barriers and facilitators which impact Veterans willingness to engage in mental health support services". Both of these projects involved investigating areas of mental health experiences, stigma and toxic masculinity. I hope to publish both of these research papers in the future. Although I do not follow a particular religion, I resonate well with Humanism. Working on my own personal development and wellbeing for over 9 years, I recognise the importance of emotional wellbeing, and this is a key aspect of the way that I work.

Please help us to break the cycle of poverty that entraps children and prevents them from becoming productive members of society. Children don’t choose to be born into poverty. Most grow up never realizing their human potential. Instead, they face physical and psychological trauma—hunger, malnutrition, disease, low self-esteem and lack of opportunity. Christel House is much more than a school. We give children a hand-up, not a handout, by providing a rigorous academic education supported by programmes to develop the whole child. We don’t just educate, or feed, or provide health care—we do all of these things from early childhood through early adulthood. And we continue to mentor our students for 5+ years after they graduate from Christel House. The results? Christel House works! Since 2001 in India and South Africa we have impacted the lives of over 2,300 children, their families and communities. In India, fewer than 10% of all children ever get to college. In South Africa, 52% of young people cannot find work. Approximately 86% of graduates from our schools in these countries are now working, in apprenticeships, or continuing their studies full or part-time at college or university. Their futures are secure, their ambitions realised. I am an advocate of leading coaching principles including Positive Psychology and the StrengthsFinder.
