I would like to thank you for taking time to visit us online and wish you a very warm welcome to the Malmesbury School website. I am delighted to be the Headteacher of Malmesbury School. The school’s long tradition of exceptional work with young people, in a caring and nurturing environment, places it amongst the very best schools in the country. I have a strong connection to the school, having worked here in the past as a faculty head for International Business and Languages. I then left Malmesbury to become an Assistant Headteacher at Balcarras School, in Cheltenham. Having a focus on Key Stage 5 enabled me to lead the sixth form from strength to strength. Before my exciting return to Malmesbury as Headteacher, I was the sole Deputy Headteacher at Burford School, one of very few state boarding schools in the country.

My background is nursing having worked as an Emergency Nurse Practitioner in the Emergency department for many years, formally working as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in a GP surgery. I am passionate about helping people become well and whole, to live life to their full potential. My career took a change of course when I trained to become a Body Control Pilates teacher, after a number of years of personal experience in Body Control Pilates, which I started after advice from a physiotherapist. I have appreciated the benefit of Pilates for my own health as well as improved performance in the sport I do - climbing, mountain biking, skiing. Through Pilates and working with those with PoTS and Long-COVID, I wanted to learn more about breathing, and realised the benefit of breathing well has on our health and wellbeing. For a long time I have been aware of the mind-body connection and the influence of stress (current, past and personality types) have on our body. I am now trained as a Stress Induced Recovery Practitioner working with those with stress induced symptoms. Movement and breathing and acknowledging the impact of stress on our body, will help calm our nervous system. I have a specific interest in those with Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (PoTS), Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD) and Hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (hEDS), Myalgic encephalomyelitis or chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), Long-COVID and any other chronic health conditions.

The Lemonade Project is an initiative of Shared Health Foundation with the aim of building resilience in young people who are experiencing low levels of emotional wellbeing. It is part of Shared Health Foundation’s wider strategy to improve mental health support for adolescents across Greater Manchester. Our resources and training are perfect to help schools meet new PSHE requirements. Project Overview The Lemonade Project consists of three strands: The Lemonade Resource Book: A range of interactive, engaging activities designed to be used by small groups of young people. It covers six main chapters addressing many of the issues in the ‘Resilience Framework’, for example emotional literacy, self esteem and identity, and dealing with challenge The Tough Times Toolkit: A conversation aid which consists of suggested questions and prompts which can help get to the root of any problems a young person might be experiencing, as well as an informal risk assessment. It also includes ideas for strategies that an adult may want to suggest to a young person to try and help them manage strong emotions. The Life and Lemons Journal: An interactive resilience journal for young people. We believe that the best way this journal can be used is to allow the young person to take it way, use in their own time, and then meet back to discuss any issues that it might have raised in a safe space with a parent/teacher or trusted adult.

We are open Monday to Friday from 8am until 6pm all year round and closed on bank holidays and the period between christmas and new year Clarence House Nursery, set in the leafy West End of Glasgow, has indoor and outdoor facilities. Shirley Hexley, the nursery owner, has been providing wraparound childcare since 1998 for 0-5 year olds. Clarence House has an excellent reputation for having a calm and nurturing environment that encourages children to be independent, develop social skills and explore new experiences. Staff are committed to understanding the individual needs of each child and work closely with parents to consolidate learning and help each child reach their full potential. Clarence House is a small nursery and recent comments from parents have included “higglety pigglety” and “quirky”. Most visitors comment on the nice feeling they get when they come in. Because of the small size of the nursery it feels homely and welcoming. Children are not regulary moved about from room to room and this allows relationships to develop into meaningful and positive friendships that can last through to school. And in the words of one of the children “we are a happy nursery”. Some of our strengths are : Our highly qualified and experienced staff follow Pre-Birth to Three and the Curriculum for Excellence which provides a framework for learning and supports all children well as they make the transition into school.
