cenex (centre of excellence for low carbon & fuel cell technologies)

Loughborough

Cenex was established as the UK’s first Centre of Excellence for Low Carbon and Fuel Cell technologies in 2005. Today, Cenex focuses on low emission transport & associated energy infrastructure and operates as an independent, not-for-profit research technology organisation (RTO) and consultancy, specialising in project delivery, innovation support and market development. We also organise Cenex-EXPO, the UK’s premier low carbon vehicle event, to showcase the latest technology and innovation in the industry. Our independence ensures impartial, trustworthy advice, and, as a not-for-profit, we are driven by the outcomes that are right for you, your industry and your environment, not by the work which pays the most or favours one technology. Finally, as trusted advisors with expert knowledge, we are the go-to source of guidance and support for public and private sector organisations along their transition to a zero-carbon future and will always provide you with the insights and solutions that reduce pollution, increase efficiency and lower costs. Together, we can lower your emissions through innovation in transport and energy infrastructure. INDEPENDENT: Truly impartial advice you can trust, based on in-house findings rather than manufacturer calculations. NOT-FOR-PROFIT: Driven to reduce the environmental impact of transport, energy and infrastructure, not by profits or returns-on-investment. Keynsham

Both our teams finished with winning records (again!) in another successful season. The Badgers finished 6-3 and the Bats finished 5-4, here is a game by game recap. Bats summary- Game 1, at Plymouth Mariners, baptism of fire for new players Alex, Elliott, Gontzal and James as we faced Plymouth’s best pitcher in the first game of the season! We lost. Game 2, home v Exeter Spitfires, complete opposite from game 1, 4 Bats had 3 hits each, we had 21 stolen bases. Game 3, away but in Failand to Newton Abbott, Mike and Paul hit Home Runs. Game 4, we beat the Badgers. Game 5, Taunton Muskets pitched a 3 hitter against us. Ouch. Game 6, Muskets again, Rich had 2 hits and 2 runs, our only highlights. Game 7, against the Badgers, we only had 4 hits? Pathetic. Game 8, home v Mariners, Rich dived for a ball, slightly hurt himself, then stopped pitching in the 2nd inning with the bases loaded and no outs. Later we found out he couldn’t play 3rd base either! Game 9, Taunton Musketoons, Paul’s pitching and his defense on the mound were great, plus we had 4 double plays. Badgers summary- Game 1: Home opener vs. the Muskets – Pete pitched his best game of the season and John Arnold got the only hit – thanks John! Game 2: Away to the Spitfires, we sure made that game hard work for ourselves but Aaron hit two homeruns and it pushed us across the line. Game 3: The first Bristol derby – we were comfortably beaten! Game 4: Musketoons in Taunton – Aaron hit three homeruns, and Rhod his two (maybe one was knocked over the fence by the Taunton Centrefielder). Game 5: Newton Abbott forfeited – snooze! Game 6: The Mariners travelled to Bristol and were thumped. They said the fence would help them hit homeruns – Tom Hollies struck out 14 batters in 7 innings ! Game 7: Final Bristol derby – the Badgers exacted revenge and Pete pitched his final game for the Bristol club. Game 8: We played the Muskets again; Tom Hollies hit two home runs but we still lost. Game 9: 34 walks for the Badgers! We turned the ball over to ‘The Swan’ Nik South to complete his perfect season of playing all 9 positions. 2015 for the Bats started somewhat tumultuously, but they settled into their groove fairly quickly. Opening day versus the Badgers was rained off, then the first game of the season saw a heavy loss at home to the Taunton Muskets. This was followed by a worryingly close game versus their clubmates the Taunton Musketoons, but we scraped through 13-9 in the end. Reasonably big wins followed away to the Exeter Spitfires and Plymouth Mariners, and the spirit gradually crept back into the team. This was re-enforced with two very enjoyable games against our clubmates the Badgers, just a shame they came out on top in both! The next game was supposed to be the Muskets Re-match but this was another rain-off, which then got rained off repeatedly and in the end the game was never played. We like to think we could have beaten Miguel, but the Musket’s 9-0 final record perhaps suggests otherwise… The next game was one that will stick in the memory for a long time. Runs were scored in every single half inning right up until the top of the ninth at home to Exeter, who held the lead for most of the game. A shut-out top of the ninth by the Bats set things up for victory in the bottom of the ninth, where Luke Looney tied things up with a three-run shot, Rich Green got on base, stole second, stole third and Billy Vickery brought him in on a fielder’s choice to win the game 21-20! You can see the scoreboard below, it’s a classic! A better win away to the Musketoons was followed by a disappointing loss at home to Plymouth in the last game of the season. Finishing with a winning record was a great result though at the end of what was an especially bumpy year. The Bats look strong going into 2016 though, with much of the 2015 team back and ready to go; lots of proven players ready to have an impact and a year’s extra experience under the belts of the relative newcomers. Bring on another year with a winning record!

The Breath Works

the breath works

Stone Cross

I discovered Breathwork a few years ago and I’ve never looked back. After giving birth to each of my two children I suffered from postnatal depression. The first time I took antidepressants. After having my daughter, with the help of a friend who’s a nutritionist, I started supporting my mind and body through what I ate. I began to realise that everything we put into our bodies has a direct impact not only on our health but also on how we feel. Some years later I was introduced to transcendental meditation and I have been practising it ever since. It heightens my awareness of what matters and gives me a greater sense of peace and happiness. Soon after this I heard about a Breathwork workshop in London. It wasn’t something I knew anything about but I wanted to find out more. I was totally unprepared for such a mind-blowing experience, bowled over by how an hour’s guided breathing could evoke such feelings and sensations in my body. Even then I didn’t really understand the impact that a regular practice could have on one’s physical and mental wellbeing over time. But I did feel a real connection with Breathwork and I was curious to find out more. Within the week I had signed up to the training and mentorship programme. Now, after over fifty hours of case studies, several retreats diving deep into my own Breathwork, and a commitment to a daily practice, I am a qualified Breathwork coach. I can see subtle yet life-changing differences, and friends and family have also noticed the transformation in me, particularly in stressful situations. I’m much more in tune with my intuition; I have a deeper sense of calm and contentment, greater clarity and less unhelpful chatter. From being someone who fell into everything in life, Breathwork has given me clarity, focus and direction. Instead of reaching for my morning coffee, my Breathwork practice and meditation clear my head and set me up for the day. I feel passionately that everyone should have this amazing tool available, to help them process and manage life’s daily stresses, and even unravel past traumas. If you are interested in experiencing the benefits of Breathwork, I am running workshops and 1:1 sessions out of Hove, near Brighton.

She Almighty

she almighty

As a coach I’ve been powering women for over half a decade to take a stand for their best selves, careers and lives. I’ve worked with thousands of women to shift from survive mode to strive and thrive and honestly, I’m just getting started ;) I love what I do and I’ve got big dreams, you could say I’m a woman on a mission! But I didn't always have it this figured out… The truth is I didn’t know what I wanted to do when I grew up. I spent my twenties trying to figure it all out, often feeling lost, frustrated and like I wasn’t realising my potential. In 2013 I’d reached a low point, I wasn’t happy in my job, living situation, relationship, I certainly wasn’t operating as the best version of me and I knew I had to make some big changes. That’s when I discovered coaching. Coaching and personal development became the catalyst for hugely positive change in my life. Of course, Rome wasn’t built in a day. I had plenty of figuring out to do, life decisions to make, and big action to take to create the career and life of my dreams. In fact, I switched jobs 3 times before I finally plucked up the courage to set up my business. But at the end of 2016, She Almighty was born - just before I turned 30. There’s nothing quite like a birthday milestone to create some urgency! I chose my freedom, and I haven’t looked back since. She Almighty has become my vehicle - to empower me and empower other women worldwide and I’d love you to be a part of that! Are you here because you feel like you need to take a stand for you, your best self and life? Are you ready to create the space, do the inner work, get the clarity and take the necessary action? If so, that's exciting - I promise, but then you are in my sweet spot! My mission is to free you from your limitations, expectations, the shoulds, the coulds and the what ifs, so that you can step courageously and confidently into your power, shine bright, thrive and create the impact you are destined to have. You only get one go at this thing called life, there’s no time to settle or put up - we must embrace, live and love who we are and what we do. Because when we do that, we live a life of purpose, joy and fulfilment and we lead others to make our world a better place. She Almighty is now an incredible community of aspirational mission-led and impact-driven women, and we recently launched our new home She Almighty Collective - be sure to check it out! Needless to say, I am delighted that you are here and I’m looking forward to supporting you on your unique life journey, so that you can be your best, happiest, most powerful and peaceful self.

Testimonial The first 2 cohorts on our online 18 month 'From Beginner to Advanced Crafter' course finished their courses in April. One individual provided a full A4 page of feedback. We are sharing that here - it is great to know that what we offer has an impact and helps. We hope that this feedback will encourage others to join us. Everything was made easy Enrolling Turning up to online sessions’ Having the equipment provided – so very well organised. The way the sessions were run encompassing everyone’s different pace and abilities. The welcoming atmosphere at the sessions. We all achieved the week’s task. This was important as I was struggling and would not have been able to deal with another thing, or complication, or something for me - so would have opted out. I was giving so much of myself elsewhere, to feel valued and be looked after was comforting, motivating and energising.  The lack of money doesn’t prevent attending. I felt welcomed in the group, whichever group I attended, and built-up rapport with the others in an easy going light hearted way – it was fun. I felt able to undertake the activity and supported throughout the session– Gray is just brilliant. This had a positive impact  There was no negative impact on me. I am grateful the sessions lasted as long as they did which I appreciate is difficult. It gave me time to feel the maximum benefit of improved mental health and general wellbeing, confidence building, skill and creativity development, and helping me to deal with everything else that was going on in my life. Specific When the flyer for the course was emailed me at work on a general circulation I read it and thought it sounded like something I needed and would like to do. I felt so drawn to it I contacted you to see if I was eligible. I was so very tired. Worn out with two years of covid emergency response work on top of my day job, pretty much spending 7-7 at my computer each day. In addition my sister was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and I decided to leave work in March 2022 to spend more time with her and care for her and support her children. Another member of my family was struggling with her mental health and I needed to spend more time with and supporting her too. Taking early retirement had a significant impact on my finances as I was only 60 and this was going to put pressure on us but as a family we agreed where my priorities needed to be. I was feeling overwhelmed, anxious and very low. The accessible, friendly, welcoming, creative space helped me cope. Initially it was time for me. Then it was something to look forward to and something to share. It was fun, relaxing and easy to lose yourself in making something and learning new skills. When things deteriorated for me, it was a constant and a safe, supportive environment. We may not have met the other participants in person but we soon bonded and cared for each other. It was Ok to turn up and not talk, not have your camera on, or to share sad news or how you were feeling. I will miss it and need to continue to carve out time for me to maintain the benefits going forward.
