In 2017 The Henley College celebrated 30 years of teaching and learning excellence, although our origins can be traced back to King James I Grammar School founded in 1604. These foundations closely reflect the academic and vocational traditions that still remain at the forefront of today's offering. Since its creation in 1987, the College has continued to serve as the sixth form of choice for our four local partner schools. However, thanks to our leading reputation and the quality of our courses, we are now home to nearly 2,000 full-time students from over 100 schools across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. In 2010 Henley was the first college in the UK to be granted a change of status to become a sixth form college. For the past decade we have also been proud to be the only sixth form college in the three surrounding counties to be awarded the highest accolade in the post-16 sector by the Department of Education. Back in the mid 1990’s I finally took up yoga, after being interested since my teens. From the very first session I loved it. As a busy Registered Nurse and mum to two youngsters at the time, I found the relaxation I felt by the end of the class to be the highlight of my week. I initially took up the practice as I had a very painful neck following a car accident. Two years of physiotherapy and pain medication had not helped very much, but yoga did. I then moved from Australia back to the UK. Although I loved my nursing work on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, I needed something for me. At that time there were very few yoga classes around, all in gyms and not really offering what I had experienced in my classes in Australia. I embarked on a 2-year yoga teaching training course at the Yoga for Health Foundation (now the Yoga for Health Foundation), enjoying residential training weekends. I loved the way we were taught, with the emphasis on what yoga could do for our health in all respects. This has vastly inspired the way I teach to this day. I feel that my nursing background is a real help in this regard too. I have since completed many yoga trainings, including the British Wheel of Yoga Diploma, and specialised Menopause Yoga training.

North London Beekeepers (NLB) is the home of beekeeping for many beekeepers in Camden, Islington, Hackney, Haringey, and Westminster, parts of Brent and south Barnet.  Our long history of promoting beekeeping goes back to the 1930s and at present we have approximately 110 members. The NLB teaching apiary is close to Kenwood House and Highgate Village, with additional recently opened apiaries at Alexandra Palace and Highgate.  North London Beekeepers is one of the 75 local associations of the British Beekeeping Associations (BBKA) that serve local communities with support and education. We are affiliated to the Middlesex Federation of Beekeepers’ Associations, which represents our members at area and national levels on the BBKA (www.bbka.org.uk). North London Beekeepers aims to promote apiculture and educate people about beekeeping by holding classes, lectures, practical workshops and discussions as well as participating in local festivals showing live bees and selling honey. We provide advice and assistance in numerous ways to beekeeping members of NLB, welcoming beginners, novices and experienced beekeepers to our ‘beekeeping club’.

We have been delivering highly successful programmes for over 13 years with achievement rates in excess of 90%. Our teaching staff are highly experienced and qualified specialists in English and maths. We have worked extensively with Jobcentre Plus across the North East for over 9 years and they value the support we provide for their customers in moving them towards employment. We work with learners at their own pace, one-to-one or in small groups in local centres. The qualifications can also be delivered on-line. Courses are tailored to meet individual needs and are fully funded subject to eligibility. In October 2020, we commenced delivery of the new Essential Digital Skills qualifications which have been developed to support adults aged 19+ who do not have the basic digital skills that are required for life and work. Japanese Traditional Ju-Jitsu is a unique discipline that brings together mental and physical fitness with self-mastery. In our classes our instructors will guide kids through their training process helping them to achieve the uppermost levels in Ju-Jitsu.
