My Pilates journey started after I was diagnosed with scoliosis (curvature of the spine) as a teenager and underwent several operations to fuse a large part of my spine with rods. I was introduced to Pilates by my Physio and it became part of my early rehab - which then developed into a love for Pilates in my adult life. Pilates, on the mat and using the apparatus, has had a huge impact on my physical and mental wellbeing. To such an extent that it led me to want to help others experience Positive Movement Every Day. I work with my clients, largely on a one to one basis, identifying their needs and developing a personal movement programme whether that be for rehab, athletic training or general well being. We use the suite of Pilates apparatus (reformer, tower, chair) as well as the mat and smaller equipment (eg spine corrector, blocks and balls). If you are hoping that Pilates will help with your pain management, I can provide information on how it has helped me over the years. I have true empathy with all chronic pain sufferers and my goal is, over time, to help you improve your quality of life. I have lived in and around South Woodford for most of my life and love that my job enables me to meet and help other local people. I am a mum to two children, plus our newest addition - a puppy. They all keep me very busy and active, something that would have been a daily struggle without Pilates in my life. MY TRAINING I completed my comprehensive (mat and apparatus) Pilates training with Polestar Pilates. I am a Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher and a member of the Pilates Teachers Association. I have my Level 3 in Pre and Post Natal Training, which qualifies me to teach Pilates safely to mums at a time when their bodies and minds are experiencing great change, and I am trained to teach Pilates to children (I have an enhanced DBS). As mentioned earlier, Kagoshima area has a lot of myths as the place where Japanese gods (They are enshrined by Japanese Shinto shrines) descended to the peak of the Kirishima Mountain. The remains of people's livelihood as old as 13,000 years ago have also been found in many places in the area, due to its mild climate. Many foreign civilizations have been introduced through Kagoshima, southern front gate of Japan in its long history. Kagoshima used to be an area with exotic atmospheres, indicated by the name of places such as Soo, Ei and Tokara, those of which must be foreign origins. One of the examples of foreign civilizations can be Buddhism from China. The famous monk (Ganjin (668~763) who provided a great influence on Japanese Buddhism) landed at the southwest coast of Kagoshima where were favored with natural ports. Both Christianity (by Francisco de Xavier (1506~1552: Portuguese) and western gun have firstly brought to Japan in 16th century through Kagoshima. Due to the reason that the land of Kagoshima is mainly composed of volcanic ashes, and is not appropriate area for the rice production that was the base of Japanese economy, loads of Feudalism, Satsuma clan, had to find other source of income for their development. Major economic activities instead of rice production was foreign trade by smuggling under the circumstance that central feudal government (Tokugawa Shogunate: 1603~18674) prohibited (locked countries policy) to communicate with foreign countries except limited foreign trade through Nagasaki. Such informal communication with foreign countries was the base for Satsuma's modernization including introduction of modern military system and equipment in the end period of Tokugawa Shogunate. Such special situation of Satsuma clan compared with other clans in Japan made them together with Choushu (Clan corresponding to the current Yamaguchi Prefecture) lead the Meiji Restoration to change from being a feudal society to having a capitalist economy and left the Japanese with a lingering Western influence. As shown above, Kagoshima, Satsuma area is characterized as an area where have been actively communicated with foreign countries in Japan.

Hello and welcome to our website. We are a volunteer run community library based in Taibach, Port Talbot. Taibach Library’s roots go back over 100 years, to 1913 when Margam Urban District Council received a grant of £2,500 from the Carnegie Trust for a free circulating library in Taibach. The foundation stone was laid in 1914 and the library opened its doors to the public in 1916. Fast forward nearly 100 years later to May 2014, and the Library was threatened with closure due to local authority cuts. As a result of this, a local group of people came together and formed the Taibach Community Library charity. The library is now run entirely by volunteers, and we rely on the generosity of individuals and local businesses for support. Without that help, we would not be able to serve those in our community as we currently do. The Library continues to play a central role in providing vital opportunities for people, young and old to learn, develop and socialise at the heart of the community. Whilst the traditional book lending remains, our library also offers much more, from regular clubs for children and young people to gather and share their interests to coffee mornings and providing support and access for people of all ages to make the most of everything that the internet has to offer. This year, our goal is to raise £5,000. Every donation that we receive will be spent directly to help us make an important difference to our local community. Whether it goes towards paying our insurance, heating or electricity bill or helping fund the purchase of new equipment, every donor will be acknowledged in our promotional literature and on our community sponsorship board located in the Library itself.
