Our team and history: A successful business, established in 1994 by Paul Meek a former Operations Director of an ambulance service. Throughout Paul's career, he was exposed daily to the consequences of poorly managed risks, and this is what spurred Paul to establish Solutions Training, he wanted to bridge the visible but avoidable gaps in risk management and in particular health & safety education and the development of the equipment used to aid safer transportation of people. Our team are all members of the “National Back Exchange” and have been contributors to various working groups on developing good practice since 1995, including research into “what constitutes effective moving and handling training” performed by the Ergonomics Department at Loughborough University and in partnership developed topic-related awards at Levels 1, 2, 3, and 4 which are on the regulated qualifications framework. The Berkshire Outdoor Education Trust was founded in 1977/78. The original purpose of the Trust was to locate and operate an Outdoor Education Centre for the use of Berkshire school children. The Trust was started with the active encouragement and support of Berkshire County Council and its then Director of Education, Peter Edwards and the late John Wood Griffiths an officer in the Berkshire Education department. The Trustees raised and borrowed the money to buy an existing centre from Glamorgan County Council in the small settlement of Rhos y Gwaliau in the Snowdonia National Park, close to the market town of Bala. In the early years Berkshire County Council paid the teachers’ salaries and gave an annual grant towards the other teaching equipment that was needed, mainly protective clothing. The Trustees managed the centre, hired and paid the domestic and maintenance staff and settled all other expenses including food and heating costs out of the fees charged to attendees. With teachers’ salaries paid by the LEA the additional amount needed to be charged to pupils was quite modest. Over time, however, the level of subsidy given by the County Council was reduced and when in 1998 the 6 Unitary Councils replaced the County Council the subsidy was phased out completely. In consequence fees had to rise considerably. It was at this point that the Trustees decided to sell the centre to the present owner, who had been a teacher at the centre for some time previously. The trust then invested the proceeds of sale and now use the income to assist the most financially disadvantaged young people in the County enjoy the benefits and experience of time spent in outdoor educational activity.

As some of you know, Pot-Sian was originally located at the 'Green shed' also known as Derw Stores in Caerwedros, which you may recognise from the photos. Also, after a successful summer last year, we will again have a comfortable painting studio within a good sized gazebo in our garden! *This will be available during the summer months (unfortunately, it is not available over Easter). The gazebo caters for family-sized groups of up to 8 people. Booking ahead is required. We will have two 3-hour sessions a day to choose from. 10am - 1pm or 2pm - 5pm. These time slots allow us to clean and sanitize the area and equipment between groups. National Back Exchange (referred to as “NBE”) is a non-profit membership association whose goal is to develop, disseminate and promote evidence-based best practice in all aspects of moving and handling and musculoskeletal health. It is run on a voluntary basis by a National Executive elected from the membership and administered from a central office in Gosforth, Newcastle. NBE’s vision for “Excellence in all aspects of moving and handling” is supported with aims to reflect the growing recognition and significance of its work. The association consults widely with other organisations / stakeholders having similar goals and actively contributes to national working parties and projects as well as supporting research and practice development. ‘Column’, the journal of NBE, provides a valuable means of communication and is supported by web-based members’ forums where topics can be freely discussed and advice sought. Since 1992 NBE has run a highly respected and successful 3 day residential conference in September for people with an interest in moving and handling. The membership of NBE includes professionals from a wide range of disciplines, including: Health and social care Therapies Education Health and safety Ergonomics Equipment manufacturing Industry The development of an Advanced Membership category (similar to a post graduate diploma) in 2006 has increased the professionalism and recognition of personnel engaged in this field. Networking and support of our members is facilitated by an interactive website, including a membership directory, links with organisations who share similar goals (both at home and 3abroad). NBE has a number of local affiliated groups located throughout the UK which run meetings on a regular basis. The local groups are an excellent way to promote networking, to share and disseminate information and support members at a local level. Tumble Tots is a physical play programme. Our sessions are structured around the different ages and stages of a child's development, from 6 months to school age. Each week we combine fun, excitement and challenge in a safe and caring environment, with our unique equipment and team of specially trained coaches. Children have an enormous amount of natural energy and with proper help and guidance it can be channelled in the right direction. We believe that if we can start children on a healthy way of life early on then it will become a habit for the rest of their lives. Exercise should be about having fun and that’s exactly what Tumble Tots provides! My name is Helen Otto and I live in High Wycombe with my husband, twin 8-year-old daughters and our 4 year old son. I took over running Tumble Tots in Marlow, Maidenhead and Bourne End in June 2017. The girls had been going to Tumble Tots in Marlow for a couple of years and loved the classes. I’d been a Tumble Tot as a child, and had also been a competitive swimmer right up until my late teenage years, so doing something in sport really appealed to me. And I love working with kids. Seeing children grow in confidence and ability week after week is so rewarding. I'm lucky enough to be surrounded by a fab team of coaches who work their socks off to make our classes fun and challenging for our tots. Our Class Leaders are Jade, Jackie, Katie and myself. The Friends of Eritrea was established in the Northwest of the UK during the period of famine and war in Eritrea in 1985. Academic and Scientific staff at the University of Liverpool and the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and a network of colleagues and friends throughout the UK, came together to provide physical and financial support and expert advice and lobbying on behalf of famine and conflict-ravaged communities and services. Visits to assess needs and advise on reconstruction of medical, veterinary, agricultural, social and educational services were undertaken by expert members of the group. At the start, members were involved in collecting blankets, books and other materials for the war zones of Eritrea. Between 1986 and 1988 the group sent several containers of essential materials. Money was raised - from donations, from plant and car-boot sales and street collections to make grants ranging from a few hundred to £7,000 to fund transport, travel and relief and development materials. Several members of the group, including our much-missed Founder-member and Honorary President, the late Dr. John Black, (pictured), were also members of the Eritrean Medical Association/UK which played an important role in mobilising medical aid for war-torn Eritrea. After the end of the War members of both groups decided to jointly form one group to be called “The Friends of Eritrea in the United Kingdom” and to expand membership. At the end of 1995 the society was registered as a company limited by guarantee and became a registered charity (No 1052161) in January 1996. The main aims of the society are to foster friendship between the Eritrean and British people and to assist in the transfer of appropriate technologies to schools, institutions of higher learning and other centres in Eritrea, which combat poverty, sickness and underdevelopment. .Membership is open to all Friends of Eritrea who support the objects of the society. Friends of Eritrea work with other Charities and Public and Private groups and individuals, wherever appropriate. So far, we have been able to support: £10,000 worth of Food, Medical supplies and transport costs to the Eritrean Relief and Refugee Commission, (ERRECC). £3000 for Computer equipment for the Adi Ugri Secondary School. Collection and Transport of several containers of books, IT equipment, educational and relief materials, including the Keren Library Project. Small Travel and Transport subsidies including £500 each towards the visit of the Parliamentary Human Rights Group and to Mr S. Marcos of AGE, (Action Group for Eritrea), to support AGE's own project to supply books to Eritrean schools, We continue, with our Friends in Manchester and elsewhere, to collect money and materials to support Educational and Community projects in Eritrea. In 2015 we intend to develop stronger links with the Decamere Orphanage with a view to identifying further projects that we can support.
