<p>To the non-geologist, working with Petroleum Geologists can be confusing. Petroleum geology has specific terminology and many concepts and data sources unfamiliar to the uninitiated.</p>
<p>This course has been designed to introduce these terms and provide an insight into how oil and gas are formed, how they are found and how they are extracted. Using a holistic combination of lectures, experiments, case study and practical exercises, the course involves an introduction to fundamental geological concepts, to exploration techniques, prospecting, drilling, well logs and recovery methods. The course will also demystify the terminology surrounding petroleum geology, demonstrate the use of geological information to show the value and weakness of different datasets, and lead to better communication and decision-making between the geologists and non-geologists. </p>

<p fr-original-style="" style="color: var(--text); font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box;">Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) offers opportunities to improve safety and efficiency in drilling, and it is increasingly recognised by operators and regulators. MPD aims to cost effectively resolve chronic drilling problems that contribute to non-productive time.</p>
<p fr-original-style="" style="color: var(--text); font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box;">This 3 full-day course provides participants with an understanding of the MPD techniques and equipment. The course starts with the design requirements for an MPD operation. It covers all MPD methods, including constant bottom hole pressure and mud cap drilling operations. It also includes all of the rig types - both onshore and offshore - and MPD. MPD equipment is presented in detail and the design aspects of the well are also examined.</p>

<p fr-original-style="" style="color: var(--text); font-size: var(--font-size); box-sizing: border-box;">Your expert course leader was born and raised in Nijmegen, Netherlands. He holds an MSc in Drilling Engineering from The Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen and has over 39 years of oilfield experience. He started in the industry back in 1977 as a Mud logger before becoming a wellsite drilling engineer in 1980 working mainly in the Middle East and West Africa. In 1988, he joined Shell in in the Southern North Sea. In 1995, he joined Smedvig in Norway and worked on a number of deepwater wells as well as on underbalanced drilling operations. In 1999, he started Leading Edge Advantage in Aberdeen and worked in coiled tubing, underbalanced and managed pressure drilling. In 2004, he joined Weatherford as Regional Engineering Manager in Singapore and developed the first ultra deepwater MPD systems. In 2010, he joined SPT Group specializing in well control and hydraulics modelling. SPT Group was later acquired by Schlumberger in 2012. At Schlumberger, he was Drilling Adviser, with a focus on well control, relief well planning and MPD. During that time, he was also an instructor for NExT teaching numerous well engineering courses. In 2015, he joined Wild Well as Engineering Manager in Asia and in February 2017, he became an independent consultant concentrating on provision of drilling engineering training. He has written and presented numerous papers and authored several chapters in the SPE Advanced Technology books. He is an active committee member and speaker on numerous SPE Workshops around the world.</p>

<p>The VILT course is intended for <strong>experienced reservoir engineers with prior technical or engineering exposure to production activities. </strong>Petroleum engineers and geoscientists who require more than general knowledge of reservoir engineering will also find this course useful.</p>
<p><strong>Participants are invited but not obliged to bring a short presentation (max of 15 minutes) on a practical problem they encountered in their work. This will then be explained and discussed in the VILT class. A short test or quiz will be held at the end the VILT course.</strong></p>

He provides project consultancy, quality assurance and reservoir engineering training for major oil companies, governments, engineering firms and other global customers. Before he retired from Shell in 2012, he held positions as Senior Reserves Consultant for the Middle East and Reservoir Engineering Discipline Lead. He is a petroleum engineering professional, with global experience, mostly in Shell companies and joint ventures (NAM, SSB, SCL, PDO, SKDBV). What is The SHARE Project?
The SHARE Project is built on a simple principle: you need to put your own oxygen mask on first!  By nurturing yourself, you’re better equipped to support your children. Through our four-week, live online workshop series, delivered via Zoom, you’ll discover practical tools to bring more calm and happiness into your daily life.

Weekly Workshops:  Each week, we’ll introduce and practice a new tool designed to fit seamlessly into your life (just a few minutes a day, I promise!). These are not your typical “luxury spa day” suggestions — because let’s face it, who has time for that?
