We hold regular meetings with a range of speakers; giving members the opportunity to exchange views, network and obtain information on topical issues. We send regular correspondence to ensure that members are kept up to date with events, local or national government policy & regulatory changes that impact on the Independent Sector. Membership of GCPA is considered a sign of a progressive organisation, committed to delivering the highest standards of care and keen to play an active part in the county’s wider social care community. Representatives of the Gloucestershire Care Providers Association attend regular strategic and liaison meetings with Social Care Officers, to discuss and review contracts, procedures and other issues. We also work very closely with the NHS, including the Clinical Commissioning Group and Gloucestershire NHS Foundation Trust throughout the county, working together on a variety of initiatives aimed both at tackling immediate issues facing vulnerable people and designing better ways of working for the future. In addition we have strong links with CQC (Care Quality Commission) and regularly liaise with Senior County Councillors, local MPs, local authority Commissioners and other decision makers, influencers and interested organisations. I founded BCTS in 2013 in order to bring quality counselling training to Biggleswade and the surrounding villages. I’m a BACP Accredited counsellor and clinical supervisor with a background in yoga and bodywork. Previously, I have worked as a counselling tutor for Huntingdon Regional College and a bodywork tutor for the University of Westminster as well as working as a college counsellor for 11 years. I currently work within the NHS IAPT programme as well as running a busy private practice in Potton and enjoy teaching yoga and breathwork in my spare time. I’m interested in the impact trauma can have on the nervous system, mind and body and have undergone extensive training in trauma. With this in mind, and my training as a breathwork coach, I have developed a more trauma-informed & embodied way of working to support others to better inhabit their bodies, self soothe and regulate their feelings and in doing so feel more grounded and connected. This aspect of my work enhances our diploma training as it supports students to developed a more embodied practice.

Nicki and Lisa met in 2009 – on an advanced communication skills course! Lisa was a delegate and Nicki was training to be a facilitator. Lisa subsequently also went through training (she says it’s the most rigorous training she has ever done) . Their working partnership developed over the subsequent years, and they began facilitating courses together regularly in about 2012. They have worked together across England and Wales, and in Ireland. Nicki has had the opportunity to travel to both New Zealand and Singapore to deliver communication skills training. Lisa is not at all jealous… It is very clear to them that the need for communication skills training amongst healthcare professionals is huge, with doctors, nurses and AHPs being asked to have the most difficult conversations with patients and their families without the skills that could make those conversations go as well as possible. The evidence that communication skills can be learned is clear, but staff are not being offered the opportunity to optimise their skills. This feels unfair. In order to continue to be able to deliver training and to develop new facilitators, Nicki and Lisa created Reach in 2018. Both were still in full time NHS employment at the time, but have since retired from clinical work to concentrate on training. They both love what they do
