After leaving the UK in 2010 and embarking on a backpacking trip to Indonesia alone spending 12 days in the forest with three local guides. Wanda, Bendy and Ping yes that was their names travelling through the forest and camping at a new spot each night. Which added some life-changing experiences for me a nieve 17-18-year-old alone in a foreign country with me not knowing any part of the local language. When I got back to the UK I decided on this as a hopeful career path which I am still working toward now. I decided I wanted to work in the travel industry, where my passion in life truly lies. So I came back to the UK after that trip and immediately planned for other journeys. Still living with family I decided to explore a bit of Latin America which I really enjoyed the culture the idea of working out here was overwhelming. So in 2011, I went to Costa Rica. But where the trips truly took an expedition type feel was when planning from start to finish around 8 months prior to going away. I planned and prepared for a journey to the Darien gap Panama-Colombia border region. Which went as best as could in this region. I then began planning my return to head to Guyana where we canoed a river we, meaning myself 2 local guides travelled for 11.5 days and travelled 288km to be exact. I knew that my dream job would now be to work as an expedition leader where I could live out my passion for leading in remote and exciting places. I now had an abundance of remote travel experience and the required knowledge and soon the qualifications that it takes to do this. But I was still without the valuable experience required to teach and lead people in remote places. I have now done my ML training so that I would soon have the qualification to make this a career choice of mine.

We are delighted to welcome our new Executive Director Paul Smyth, who comes to us with a wealth of experience and a strong reputation for ground breaking youth work. I am thrilled to have taken up the post of Executive Director with Politics in Action – and I want to start by congratulating my predecessor Patricia O’Lynn on her election to the Northern Ireland Assembly. We live in a turbulent time for politics around the world, nationally and locally – and this makes the work of supporting young people’s role as active citizens more challenging and even more important. We are emerging from a global pandemic which has put unprecedented restrictions on the lives and freedoms of young people, and which has impacted their learning, their social lives, their relationships and for some their mental health. Politics in Action responded proactively to these challenges by moving workshops online and ensuring continuity. I am optimisticwe can return to largely face-to-face delivery of our programmes with young people in schools and other settings, and can find new ways of engaging with more young people and in particular those who are not normally invited into conversations about politics and citizenship. Much of what we already do is in collaboration with schools and with other youth organisations. I see so much potential for additional collaborations that allow our little charity to punch above its weight. One of the many attractions of the role is the excellent Board of Trustees who provide strong governance, leadership and vision for Politics in Action. They bring significant social and political capital to the charity and use it in the interests of young people and our shared future. At WRAP, we realise that unscheduled plant shut downs are enforced for safety concerns when traditional metallic repairs require hot welding for expended gas and oil pipelines. However, our non-metallic repair is provided as a full turnkey cold work solution, thus guaranteeing that strengthening pipelines and pipe support involves no heat-reliant procedures. WRAP’s world-class services significantly eradicates external corrosion and structurally rehabilitates the asset, whilst also totally erasing the need for costly plant shut downs. Our Neptune Research Inc. composites, together with the use of Safety Tools Allmet, enables us to perform maintenance under a “cold work permit”, thus providing a cost efficient solution and boost safety to a higher level. Part of WRAP’s pipeline rehabilitation service includes HDD field joint protection. In these procedures we focus on the complete protection of field joint coatings and prepare the pipe for the pull through by providing a robust mechanical protection over the field joint coating. It is evident that the integrity of composite repairs depends largely on how well the compounds are adhered to the surface of the pipe. We have studied that the profile of the prepared surface significantly affects the adhesion integrity of the composite repairs. However, many of the classified sites cannot be shut down for use of hot works surface preparation methods as grinding and sandblasting and as a consequence, many of the repairs were not performed satisfactorily due to poor adhesion to unclean surface. Through matching epoxy/resin based solutions with “cold grinding” methods, we are able to deliver an unparalleled process that ensures quality application and workmanship.

How We Work The Fed is a membership organisation run by you, for you! The Fed is administered by an Executive Committee made up from its membership, and elected by you, the members, at the AGM. As our ministry has grown over the last several decades we have continually asked the question – What is it that we have to offer through the Holy Spirit to both those in need and/or those within the church seeking deeper relationship with Christ? We have discovered that through a mixture of teaching, training and a more tailored mentoring approach we can help individuals, groups and churches to fulfill more of their potential in Christ. That is, to disciple them in ways that impact all areas of their lives. Our background combines business and training, research and therapeutic work together over many years, alongside church planting and church growth. We bring a high level of hands on pragmatism with all these skills. We are not content with just teaching and envisioning. We also focus very specifically on the how-to-do-it, the step-by-step approaches that turn Biblical ideas into a new way of life in Christ. Also our approach is collaborative – what we mean by this is that we help you identify what your own options are, what your own values are, what your calling in Christ really means to you. Then we support you in achieving this through our training programs. We are also developing these ideas academically, looking beyond our own calling and practices. We work alongside local congregations, helping to equip them for both local church life and wider mission. We also offer training for Christian leaders and those who want to learn to help others. All our resources and programs are intended to help support a persons ongoing discipleship journey – your journey into greater wholeness. In all that we offer we are always seeking to answer the often-heard basic question, ‘how do I do that?’. Therefore most of our programmes are tailored to the needs of the participants.
