At the heart of education and innovation The Cardiac Diagnostics Education Centre is based within the North West Heart Centre at Wythenshawe Hospital which forms part of the wider Manchester Heart Institute of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. As an IQIPS Cardiac Physiology and BSE accredited department we have many years of experience in running advanced cardiology courses, launching our new portfolio of courses under the ‘Cardiac Diagnostics Education Centre’ name in 2021.   With over 65 staff members at all levels we provide diverse training to support the needs of school leavers, undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as qualified healthcare professionals. Our learners include students, AHPs, nurses, physiologists, registrars, GPs and consultants. Our aim is to deliver the highest quality cardiac education to healthcare professionals to encourage continuous improvement and progression in cardiac knowledge in order to provide the best, most advanced patient care. We are proud to provide the clinical cardiology teaching for both the Practitioner Training Programme (PTP) and Scientist Training Programme (STP) run by the National School of Healthcare Science on behalf of Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU). In collaboration with the British Society for Echocardiography (BSE), Health Education England and MMU we also facilitate the new 18 month echocardiography training programme which includes a Postgraduate certification in Echocardiography and a BSE Level 2 accreditation in transthoracic echocardiography. We are also a selected National Practice Assessment Centre for the BSE. In line with our commitment to education we also host numerous apprentice, PTP, STP and echocardiography students each year throughout their learning and ensure they are incorporated into our wider team to enhance their experience. We also offer work experience for candidates of all ages (school leavers through to career changes) to provide unrivalled access to the crucial work we perform - this helps to raise the profile and showcase the importance of cardiac physiology as a discipline. As an extension to our in-house education we also run external courses for other a wide range of other healthcare providers. The Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP) was established as the National Association of Theatre Nurses, NATN, in 1964. As a membership organisation and registered charity AfPP works to enhance skills and knowledge within operating departments, associated areas and sterile services departments. AfPP aims to enhance the quality of care and patient safety in the NHS and the independent sector throughout the UK. In April 2005 NATN changed its name, structures and systems in recognition of the significant changes that were happening in the healthcare sector and the wider perioperative environment and to accommodate the growing numbers of Operating Department Practitioners and Healthcare Support Workers who were previously not eligible for full membership. AfPP also works to encourage the exchange of professional information between members and co-operation with other professional bodies. These include the Departments of Health in the UK, the Perioperative Care Collaborative, the Medical Royal Colleges, Chief Nursing Officers (CNOs) of all four member countries, Skills for Health and many of the British Safety Institution Committees and other groups set up to discuss specific issues related to perioperative care. WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT? Our approach is light touch with minimal intervention in the environment and prioritising nature. We are currently developing our site facilities and creating spaces for small groups and low impact events. These include bushcraft, forest school, wellbeing sessions, forest bathing, yoga, pilates, artist retreats etc. We’re already working with schools, charities, youth and arts groups. If you've got a small scale event, workshop or idea you'd like to make happen, we would love to hear from you. Just drop us a message on our contact page. NATURE Our ethos is very much one of balance, so for us plants and animals are as important as people. We are currently working with fantastic environmental advisors to establish what plants and animals are currently residing on our site. Our aim is to protect the habitats that already exist, create a comprehensive management plan and increase biodiversity where possible. It's all about the science! In common with most of the British Isles the land here has been managed by humans for hundreds of years - a mixture of farming, park land and old tree plantations. It’s not wild in the true sense of an untouched natural ecosystem but it’s a special place that has been left pretty much to itself for several decades. We’re just starting our long term project to create more detailed surveys of the flora and fauna, and are excited to meet and work with new people. I oversee Erasmus work-based internships from all over Europe.
