nailsworth community workshop

The workshop was set up by Gavin Pond and Pam Brown in October 2009. We believe that there is a morality in craftwork that can inspire confidence and self-belief. Practical intelligence is often neither acknowledged nor respected, which results in many talented people's strengths not being recognised or nurtured, and as a consequence they loose self-confidence. Have a look at this TED talk for a reflection on education in our modern world. We live in a society where we are encouraged constantly to buy the new and disregard the old. This leads to a lack of care and respect for our surroundings and blinds us to the true worth of things. By striving to create something to the best of our ability and to see it through to the end, we learn to respect ourselves and our surroundings. By working in this way we hope to open new doors and widen horizons.

dukeries community workshop

1986- Unemployment was high. Members of the Adult Unemployed Centre expressed a desire to use workshop facilities. As school rolls fell, under used accommodation was identified. In April, a project submission was put before the Dukeries Complex Council of Management and a steering group was set up. A fourteen-week pilot scheme commenced in July. This was successful but funding to continue the project could not be provided by Notts County Council Resources. Main target group - adult unemployed. Those made redundant emerged as the most significant user group. Facing the possibility of long-term unemployment these were the most consistent users. Almost 50% were ex-miners, 99% were male. Today in 2020 we have over 150 users and are open 5 days a week and Tuesday Evenings

ravensthorpe community centre

The organisation was set up in 2000 as an independent charity to run a community facility. Since then it has gone from strength to strength by expanding the space available for activities and delivering its own services such as childcare, adult learning health and well-being projects. Outline below is our story: 1999 - In 1999, with the closure and demolition of the Foundry Street youth club, a meeting was held by representatives of local Ravensthorpe based community groups about the possibility of acquiring a building for general community use. After many meetings and discussions between them and Kirklees Council, it was agreed that if representatives could come together to form a group, Kirklees Council would support them in acquiring and running a community building through available European SRB Grant funding. With St Johns Ambulance Centre looking for new premises their building came up for sale, it was purchased by the newly formed group in 1999 and renamed as the Ravensthorpe Community Centre. 2000 - The building underwent a series of alterations to make it more suitable for use as a community centre, the building had disabled ramps put in and the rooms were changed to make then suitable for community use. In May 2000 the building was officially opened by Mayor of Kirkless. The building subsequently became very popular with regular users such as a wide range of community groups, the local further education college holding learning classes and a local provider delivering crèche facilities.

whitechapel community project

We are a volunteer led work with very few staff, but this does not mean we are a small organization. We can see as many as 300 people a day, looking for our assistance. We remain open every day Our impact remains high We can do this for a fraction of the cost of other day centres. We do this without any statutory funding. We recognize the true strength of our volunteers. And we recognize the value of everybody coming through our doors. First, we help people by meeting immediate needs: food, shelter, clothing, and medical care. In our recovery programs, we address deeper needs for life-skills and job-skills training, and addiction recovery. We measure our progress against four criteria, which indicate to us that a life has been transformed from homelessness to hope: connection to family, commitment to sobriety, a job and a place to live, and a plan for the future. Today, The Whitechapel Mission is a results-oriented organization that is recognized as one of London's most effective. Our Purpose The Whitechapel Mission is called to serve the men and women caught in the cycles of poverty, hopelessness and dependencies of many kinds, and to see their lives transformed to hope, joy and lasting productivity. Our Goal To be the most effective provider of compassionate care and life transformation for hurting people in London. We promote the concept of being part of the Mission and taking ownership of the Mission. Any and all who come are welcome. The services we offer are built upon trust and belonging. coolmine community school

Coolmine Community School was one of the first two community schools founded in the Republic of Ireland in 1972. The school was officially blessed and opened in 1974. This Community School (and the subsequent 84 others opened since 1972), was established by the State after considerable discussion between the local Parents Committee, the Department of Education, the VEC and the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Dublin, with a view to integrating the traditional academic / classical approach of the Secondary Schools with the vocational / industrial tradition of the Vocational Schools
