Newport Girls’ High School offers an all-round education with considerable strengths both inside and beyond the classroom. We support students academically to achieve their potential, whilst also developing resilience and promoting emotional wellbeing. As a relatively small school, there is a real family-feel to NGHS and our house system affords students the chance to meet peers in other year groups and to participate in healthy competition in a wide range of disciplines. There is an extra-curricular activity to suit all tastes at NGHS and staff work exceptionally hard to provide these opportunities for our students. We also organise a number of key open events during the academic year and welcome visitors to see all that NGHS has to offer. Our curriculum is academically rigorous with all students studying two modern languages in KS3 and separate sciences at GCSE. Some students also study Further Maths as an additional equivalent GCSE. At A-level we offer a full range of subjects to enable progression to university, apprenticeship or employment. Significant support with UCAS applications is available to all. Our pastoral team, comprising both teaching Heads of Year, SENDCO and non-teaching support staff ensure that our students’ individual needs are met and we work closely with families and primary schools to ensure a smooth transfer from Year 6. Newport Girls’ High School was visited by Ofsted in October 2019 for a section 8 inspection. We are delighted to have retained our outstanding status as a result of this visit under the revised Ofsted framework.

Hi, I’m Jane Barrett, co-founder of The Career Farm and co-author of “Taking charge of your career”. I started my career in in-house recruitment (recruiting MBAs for PricewaterhouseCoopers) and retained search consultancy for blue-chip clients, private companies and start-ups across a variety of sectors including Finance, IT and FMCG. As a recruiter it was clear to me that many well-qualified MBA and Masters candidates were poorly prepared for the interview process, and were unable to explain what they wanted and what they had to offer. This lack of preparation meant that good candidates were failing to get offers. We founded The Career Farm to support the careers teams at Business Schools across the UK and Europe, using our 3-step “GPS” process to help students get better jobs on graduation. Over the years we’ve worked with thousands of students, originally in face-to-face workshops and more recently through our online courses. Lives and works in Brighton & Hove, United Kingdom. ARTISTS STATEMENT: I am a contemporary mosaic artist. My goal? To celebrate and challenge the art of mosaic. Colour underpins everything I create. The approach: intuitive. In my work over twenty five yearsI have developed a striking and vibrant style. The work has included architectural wall and floor features, decorative pieces and sculptures. Whilst developing my sculptural practice I was one of the first in Britain to import concrete construction techniques specifically for mosaic making from North America. This led to my recent postgraduate enquiry into how to translate fragment to form. To take the tile (tesserae) from the surface and make it the object in itself. After all, mosaic originated in Roman construction techniques, it did not begin as decoration. Experience in working to commission for private, corporate and public clients has equipped me with a broad spectrum of skills. They range from design and making to fine judgement about enhancing a space. It is underpinned by a careful interpretation of the clients’ requirements. The art of mosaic, often overlooked and undervalued, is rich in culture, materials and skill. It’s traditions and versatility I continue enthusiastically to embrace. My purpose? To stimulate discussion about the mosaic-making process and to contribute to its' position as both a craft and a fine art form. Currently I focus on producing new sculptural artwork for exhibition and sale.

My name is Anthony, I'm currently working remotely and I have been passionate about travel all my life. New places and new people have inspired me throughout this journey. I was fortunate to be engaged in a lot of projects that are creative. Everything went well, but then 2020 began! Soon after the pandemic started, I suddenly discovered that it became almost impossible to travel. I was working in one particular place, surrounded by walls, and day to day nothing changed. My motivation was disappearing… Spring was gone, then summer... Borders gradually opened, but few people risked travelling. For me, everything changed in the autumn when I met Lena.. Lena was in the same situation, she wanted to travel, but she didn't want to go alone. Together we found a way out. We have created a first camp by gathering like-minded people such as entrepreneurs, startupers, IT-specialists, and together we went to Turkey, rented a villa and spent two weeks there. Even though we arrived as strangers we quickly developed a bond. We spontaneously organized workshops, brainstorming sessions, and most importantly the exchange of experiences and friendships. The community started to appear. more than 30 countries Lena Bulgakova Traveler and co-founder of the project #remotecamp Now, after a series of successful camps in different countries, we know it works!. People from different fields of activity, united by the desire to know themselves better, found their work & life balance here. They found themselves happier and more productive, and continued to inspire each other. We discovered how people found a new lifestyle, explored wonderful places alongside their work.

We began our journey from a point of adversity. In 2013, after witnessing a family member suffer significant trauma, we decided to look at ways in which we could use our experience, to help young people in difficult and challenging situations. We began by volunteering, I (Simon) volunteered for the youth service where I worked with young people on referrals from Childrens Services for a year. Louise began by training to be a breastfeeding peer support worker and through this met inspirational healthcare professionals, who signposted her to further training. Now a qualified R.N. and holding a BSc Honours degree she has fulfilled her ambition. As modern nursing adopts a more holistic approach, we began to draw on this knowledge to provide a more valuable service to the young people we work with. We began to study experts in neuroscience who had a particular interest in music like Dr Wendy Mcghee, and Dr Ani Patel, as well as studying the strengths and weaknesses of using technology to support our sessions. We found that Music in general is a powerful and versatile way of supporting young people with not only their development of essential skills, like listening and team work, but over the years, we have recognised a particular advantage when supporting young people who may have become disengaged with education, or have Specific Learning Difficulties. We have a strong philosophy that health and education go hand in hand and we are proud to harness music and technology to share that message, something which is unique to us, that could not have happened without facing our challenges and informing our own personal development.
