…I’ve been painting almost all my life, as I didn’t stop when I left school. There were many years when I’d only do the odd sketch or painting as ‘real life’ took over, but I always wanted more. Once I’d made the decision to try to realise my childhood ambitions I gave myself up to it as completely as real life would allow. It’s taken a long time, but now I make art part of my daily life. Even though …It’s now ‘the job’, I still get a big kick out of drawing and painting. There’s nothing better that looking at what you’ve achieved and see it looking back at you. Knowing exhibition sales help with animal conservation is another bonus, but it’s equally exciting to get a pet portrait commission from someone, as it is to sell something in exhibition. A lot of my time is spent teaching art, mostly to retired people. I Believe …art plays a very important role in keeping people healthy. As a teaching Artist, I want to share my life-times experience of art with other people so they can enjoy it too. My workshops and classes are growing in popularity and it’s very satisfying, knowing people are choosing to learn from me. The act of painting is a enriching and a soulful process, a non-verbal and visual means of communicating with the subconscious. Painting allows us to totally get absorbed with our inner-being, where we can withdraw from the world and connect with the unconscious. Our hidden self. Over time, my art has been a therapeutical journey for the mind and the soul. My artistic impetus has been influenced by the Northern Romantic painters, Caspar David Friedrich’s soulful sublime images and J.W.M Turner’s Thespian, dramatic semi-abstract contrasting darks hues against luminous tones that imbue emotions. Both sway between sublimity, serenity and awe-inspiring beauty. Similarly, Rothko’s ethereal canvases evoke a spirituality through mysterious broken blocks of colour and luminous layers of light that weaves in and out of the gaps, offering the viewer an experience of transcendence. My Indian heritage and Africa birthplace have influenced my painting from a deeper space within. For last twenty-five years, I have used painting as a creative and a therapeutical tool for self-analysis and higher awareness. Each of my canvases aims to offer the viewer the pleasure of the imagination, where the viewer sees more than just a recognisable forms but find themselves through the pleasure art appreciation. Not unlike both Friedrich and Turner’s art. I aim to encourage the viewer a voyeuristic perspective to exploring hidden dialogues. A pleasure of the imagination.

As a signatory of the Registration Council for Dog Trainers and Behaviour Practitioners; and a supporting member of Qualified International Dog Training Instructors, I abide by the Companion Animal Welfare Council code of practice. I started working with dogs at the grass roots, as a dog walker. It began when I got my own dog, Bonnie, and a friend asked me if I would walk her dog too, on a professional basis. That seems like a lifetime ago now. And it goes deeper than that, as my childhood was enriched with a numerous, assortment of family dogs. It planted the seed. The dog walking business flourished and opened my eyes to the wonderful world of working with dogs. I wanted to explore more and so embarked on a practical course with a highly knowledgeable and experienced dog trainer. He has shared the art of pet dog training with me and taught me to instruct. I have been instructing owners in puppy training and dog training since 2014. My practical, reward based dog training experience is backed up with continued professional development and study. I have attended residential courses, workshops and seminars, including True2Life Dog Training and Behaviour, and the Canine Instructors' Academy, gaining diplomas, and I continue to study the science of behaviour with an Advanced Diploma in Canine Behaviour Management.

My background is in social justice work and capoeira Angola, the combination of which has taken me to complete a PhD in anthropology and to live for several years in Latin America. I came to yoga around 2007 in my early twenties, but it was when I was living in a particularly challenging context, as I accompanied human rights defenders in a favela in Rio de Janeiro, that I developed my own daily yoga and meditation practice. This sadhana (practice) became my inner refuge, and the fire for my resilience, as I witnessed and denounced the injustice experienced by those around me. I honestly felt I would not have been able to deal with some of the situations we experienced, without the inner equilibrium, peace and strength I was able to cultivate daily on my mat. It was this experience, and the desire to make yoga more accessible to many more of the people who could most use these tools for self-and community-care and resilience, that drew me to teach. Following this call, I completed my 200hr Yoga Teacher Training in 2017. In 2018 I participated in two transformative 100hr immersions with my dear friend and teacher, Bex Tyrer, at the Yoga Barn in Bali – Yoga Philosophy and You, and Body Image, Identity and Yoga, which had an emphasis on yoga activism and unwinding the feminine aspects of the practice.
