Cambridge Gymnastics Academy CIC is a non-profit organisation, which was founded in May 2012. The company Director Kayleigh Plaza, had a vision to provide affordable gymnastics for all, no matter age, gender, income or ability/disability. The club has since evolved and with an incredibly dedicated staff team, together fundraised, saved and received grants from both the Council and Sport England totalling £250,000. In May 2016, CGA opened its doors to a dedicated facility at North Cambridge Academy. CGA prides itself on being a hub for the community. Sessions are available from 6 week old babies to adult, from recreational to elite, with the lowest priced classes in the area and we even offer a 10% discount for people on means tested benefits. After our pre-school classes, we offer free refreshments so families can build relationships with others. We offer classes for minority groups such as women’s only, over 50’s and specially designed disability sessions. We are an inclusive club, so in the evenings children with disabilities join in with our normal recreational sessions. We deliver curriculum support to the NCA students and run a youth night on a Friday evening to provide local young people with a safe environment. In 2017 our success & hard work was recognised by British Gymnastics and we were selected as 1 of 3 clubs in the whole of the UK to be shortlisted for the award ‘British Gymnastics Club of the Year’. Following this success CGA were also awarded the 2017 winners of the ‘Living Sports Community Club of the Year’ fighting off strong competition from sports clubs across Cambridgeshire. Both huge achievements for the club. The club is a registered member of both British Gymnastics and Eastern Counties Gymnastics Association and has a number of fully qualified coaches & judges up to National Level who are DBS checked, safeguard & first aid qualified.

About Alice Leahy Trust TRUST was founded in 1975, and this year we are 35 years working people who are homeless in Dublin. TRUST is a non-political, non-denominational voluntary body set up in 1975 as a private charitable trust (Charity No.CHY7014) to provide medical and related services for people who are homeless. We work in premises provided at a nominal rent by the Iveagh Trust. Between 30 and 40 men and women call each morning, the majority of whom are sleeping out (age 18 to 85). We see new people daily and often have people calling who were housed – settled- and become homeless again. Washing facilities are available and each month we give out in excess of 500 outfits of clothing to people who are homeless as part of our total health service. Members of the public, Rotary and church groups donate the clothes and shoes. Developing a Sense of Self-Worth We encourage and help people who come to us to avail of statutory services and to obtain their entitlements; to place a value on themselves; to develop a sense of self esteem and avoid dependence on private charity. “When we first entered TRUST on the Monday at the beginning of the week Alice asked us if we could ever see ourselves homeless and straight away we answered “No”. But now after all we’ve experienced and seen I now realise there is only a very, very fine line between having a home and being homeless. Homelessness is not just being houseless -it’s about not feeling wanted or belonging somewhere. Society has an awful opinion of homeless people as drunks, down and outs -whereas they are only human beings like the rest of us who just couldn’t keep up in the rat race. We met some very well spoken people -teachers who couldn’t get jobs, doctors who couldn’t “make it”. They become so institutionalised that they will not move out of a hostel. Before, I would have been anxious or afraid to approach a homeless person on the street but now I know that they would be happy to have someone to talk to. Helping to Create a Society where Everyone is Important We see a major part of our work is in the field of advocacy or promoting more awareness of the outsiders amongst us, and the creation of this web site and our Transition Year Project and Essay Competition grew directly out of that commitment. We are a relatively small agency but through our work we have gained valuable insights and using our experience we try in different ways to bring that into the wider community and seek to effect change. For example, we have been intensely involved in prison and psychiatric work since the beginning of Trust. In 1998, Trust Director Alice Leahy was invited to join the National Crime Forum. Trust is on the Consultative Board of the Homeless Initiative and is involved in on-going training of specialist groups. We make submissions in response to requests from government agencies and are involved in relevant research on the issues relating to homelessness. Trust feels that some agencies involved with people who are homeless may not respect everybody’s right to the confidential use and storage of information. Some people who are homeless feel pressurised to take part in research into homelessness in case they may lose their hostel bed or their entitlements. Trust only participates in research when we believe the research design is sound, ethical and likely to provide useful information. “I was most impressed by your service. Founded in 2005, GymFun Gymnastics Club began as a Newtownabbey based Gymnastics Club specialising in recreational gymnastics. We work in partnership with Ulster University and are based at the Jordanstown Campus. We provide fun-filled classes, training, participation and performance opportunities for boys, girls, teenagers and young adults of all abilities. The name GymFun reflects our approach to the sport of gymnastics. Our motto is ‘Serious Smiles' which captures the spirit of all of our activities. We focus on developing children's fundamental movement skills and confidence through a positive and FUN environment. We believe that all children can benefit from postitive gymnastics experiences and that this can help them develop the physical literacy needed for an active life. We fully subscribe to the belief that gymnastics is to sport and physical activity as the alphabet is to reading. We therefore emphasise the mastery of gymnastics skills rather than competitive success. It is our belief that all children, regardless of ability, should be provided with an enjoyable, high quality, recreational gymnastics experiences to enable them to achieve their potential. We strive to ensure our classes are run to the highest standards and we are constantly evolving our programme. Our Membership GymFun Jordanstown is one of the largest recreational gymnastics club in the Newtownabbey. In our Jordantown classes we have over 450 GymFunners training with us every week! Both our teams finished with winning records (again!) in another successful season. The Badgers finished 6-3 and the Bats finished 5-4, here is a game by game recap. Bats summary- Game 1, at Plymouth Mariners, baptism of fire for new players Alex, Elliott, Gontzal and James as we faced Plymouth’s best pitcher in the first game of the season! We lost. Game 2, home v Exeter Spitfires, complete opposite from game 1, 4 Bats had 3 hits each, we had 21 stolen bases. Game 3, away but in Failand to Newton Abbott, Mike and Paul hit Home Runs. Game 4, we beat the Badgers. Game 5, Taunton Muskets pitched a 3 hitter against us. Ouch. Game 6, Muskets again, Rich had 2 hits and 2 runs, our only highlights. Game 7, against the Badgers, we only had 4 hits? Pathetic. Game 8, home v Mariners, Rich dived for a ball, slightly hurt himself, then stopped pitching in the 2nd inning with the bases loaded and no outs. Later we found out he couldn’t play 3rd base either! Game 9, Taunton Musketoons, Paul’s pitching and his defense on the mound were great, plus we had 4 double plays. Badgers summary- Game 1: Home opener vs. the Muskets – Pete pitched his best game of the season and John Arnold got the only hit – thanks John! Game 2: Away to the Spitfires, we sure made that game hard work for ourselves but Aaron hit two homeruns and it pushed us across the line. Game 3: The first Bristol derby – we were comfortably beaten! Game 4: Musketoons in Taunton – Aaron hit three homeruns, and Rhod his two (maybe one was knocked over the fence by the Taunton Centrefielder). Game 5: Newton Abbott forfeited – snooze! Game 6: The Mariners travelled to Bristol and were thumped. They said the fence would help them hit homeruns – Tom Hollies struck out 14 batters in 7 innings ! Game 7: Final Bristol derby – the Badgers exacted revenge and Pete pitched his final game for the Bristol club. Game 8: We played the Muskets again; Tom Hollies hit two home runs but we still lost. Game 9: 34 walks for the Badgers! We turned the ball over to ‘The Swan’ Nik South to complete his perfect season of playing all 9 positions. 2015 for the Bats started somewhat tumultuously, but they settled into their groove fairly quickly. Opening day versus the Badgers was rained off, then the first game of the season saw a heavy loss at home to the Taunton Muskets. This was followed by a worryingly close game versus their clubmates the Taunton Musketoons, but we scraped through 13-9 in the end. Reasonably big wins followed away to the Exeter Spitfires and Plymouth Mariners, and the spirit gradually crept back into the team. This was re-enforced with two very enjoyable games against our clubmates the Badgers, just a shame they came out on top in both! The next game was supposed to be the Muskets Re-match but this was another rain-off, which then got rained off repeatedly and in the end the game was never played. We like to think we could have beaten Miguel, but the Musket’s 9-0 final record perhaps suggests otherwise… The next game was one that will stick in the memory for a long time. Runs were scored in every single half inning right up until the top of the ninth at home to Exeter, who held the lead for most of the game. A shut-out top of the ninth by the Bats set things up for victory in the bottom of the ninth, where Luke Looney tied things up with a three-run shot, Rich Green got on base, stole second, stole third and Billy Vickery brought him in on a fielder’s choice to win the game 21-20! You can see the scoreboard below, it’s a classic! A better win away to the Musketoons was followed by a disappointing loss at home to Plymouth in the last game of the season. Finishing with a winning record was a great result though at the end of what was an especially bumpy year. The Bats look strong going into 2016 though, with much of the 2015 team back and ready to go; lots of proven players ready to have an impact and a year’s extra experience under the belts of the relative newcomers. Bring on another year with a winning record!

We have been providing residentials, day events and more recently online classes where gifted children can find their tribe for over 40 years. Since the surge in online activity in the pandemic, our reach has broadened to include mixed-ability participants from the home educated community, but our culture of learning for learning's sake without the weight of judgment, assessment or the drag of trying to work alongside students who are not as curious about new ideas as you are, all remain the same. As well as our classes, we can offer advice to parents in negotiating with schools, and can sometimes fit in or arrange 1:1 sessions to introduce students to more advanced materials and ideas that can keep them challenged.
