Hi, I'm Beth. I’m a Speech and Language Therapist from Essex, UK. I'm a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, from the UK, with extensive experience working with children with speech, language and communication needs in a range of settings including schools, preschools and clinics. I'm mum to two primary school-aged children, one of whom has special needs. I also provide a regular service to a number of schools in my local geographical area. I have a master’s degree in Health and Human Sciences (MSc), qualifying as a Speech & Language Therapist in 2009. My undergraduate degree (BA Hons) is in Linguistics and Spanish. I’m registered with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, the Health and Care Professionals Council and the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice (ASLTIP). I have been the chair of my local ASLTIP group for a number of years, organising regular meetings and suporting a large group of 18 members covering a range of clinical specialisms. I’ve worked with lots of practitioners and staff in schools and preschools throughout my career and I've provided a lot of information, advice, training and support for a variety of Speech and Language topics. As well as training education staff, I also deliver seminars as a guest lecturer to Speech and Language Therapy Students at the University of Essex. These cover a range of topics, including service provision, speech sounds, stammering, vocabulary and word finding, assessment and intervention. The XML Summer School is a unique event for everyone using, designing, or implementing solutions using XML and related technologies, held in Oxford, UK. The week-long event is made up of courses which range from the basics of XML to advanced topics in linked data, web design, and publishing. Faculty tutors include practitioners and academics who are at the forefront of XML and related technologies. How is the teaching structured? Each course comprises a series of small-group classes, with plenty of time for questions and discussion. Some courses also feature a hands-on component, where you’ll have the opportunity to try out the techniques you have learned, and receive feedback and support on your work. There are also panel discussions, and informal learning opportunities over meals and evening activities. What prior knowledge do I need? That depends. The Hands-on Introduction to XML course is intended for anyone who needs to work with XML and wants to learn the basics. The other courses all assume at least this basic level of knowledge, so if you’re a beginner, you’ll need to take the Hands-on Introduction before moving on to the more advanced training. The exception to this is Trends and Transients, which features lectures by guest speakers about a variety of topics on the cutting edge of XML-related technologies. Accommodation, meals, and social events are included in the fee. The venue is St Edmund Hall, one of the most historic sites at the University of Oxford, dating back to the 12th century. All the faculty and delegates stay in college and take part in the social events, so there’s lots of opportunity to discuss questions that arise after the classes. Trent Valley Woodturners are a club of 60+ members who meet on a regular basis to discuss and practice the art of wood turning. The club is based in Kegworth, Leicestershire and is situated next to the Village Hall. The workshop is situated in a brand new purpose built facility which was opened in early May 2015. On the second Wednesday of every month the members are entertained with a demonstration from either a professional wood turner or a club member. Demonstrations take place during the evening between 6.30 to 9 pm and are free for all members to attend. Non members are charged £5 for admission. Spaces are limited so be sure to contact the Secretary before arriving. Club activities include a hands on experience several times each month, where members have access to a variety of lathes and workshop equipment. At these meeting the members have the opportunity to use the club facilities or to just discuss ideas or problems with other people. On the third Wednesday of each month, members have the opportunity to socialise, watch DVD’s and discuss problems over tea and coffee. This is a ‘no turning session between 1.30 – 4.30pm. During the Autumn and Winter months, on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, training is given to students new to woodturning. The cost for each 8 week session, 2 hours per night is £64. Due to popular demand training has now been extended to include Friday Mornings, a 8 week course, 3 hours per session costs £96. Anyone interested in joining any of our training classes should contact the Secretary as soon as possible as places are limited. Activities are arranged throughout the year and include all day presentations by professional Woodturners and visits to local wood fairs. At these fairs the members demonstrate their woodturning skills and exhibit some of the items that have been made in the club. Some of these items are sold to the general public and some of the proceeds donated to charity. The club facilities include a variety of lathes and workshop equipment, a library of books/DVDs and a stock of woodturning accessories which include glues, polishes and miscellaneous items. The club has state of the art audio and visual equipment which is used during demonstrations.

When I sat down to formulate the concept of the company, I had a specific target in mind. My vision was to create a genuine one-stop-shop for all forms of industrial computing and control. I had seen other companies attempt to achieve this and fail, so I was determined that my new company would be successful and able to offer a comprehensive range of services from 24/7 support through to full systems design, for Management Information systems – through a full range of Validation Services and in control systems from the smallest PLC to the largest DCS. I knew from my own experience that what was needed was a company that could deliver, had the right attitude and was flexible enough to respond, whatever the customers’ requirements. In 2012, David Andrews, alongside colleague Chris Williams formed Mr Andrews Online with a vision to deliver better learning experiences for children using mobile technology. The journey began, as Year 6 teachers, sharing ideas and approaches to global audiences on the award wining blog ‘Mr Andrews Online‘. The blog influenced classroom practice both here in the UK and around the world and went on to win an award at the UK Blog Awards 2014 for its ‘Impact in Education’. In 2016 they won an award for a module run in partnership with Hull Children’s University. Since 2012 David and Chris have worked alongside hundreds of schools, teachers and delivered classroom experience days for children (4-11 year olds) up and down the country. They were lucky enough to be invited to present work in the US on two occasions. In 2014 they began working alongside the National Association of Headteachers to deliver courses. Interestingly, David and Chris had articles published in the Guardian and sold the publications ‘Rapid Progress for Boys’ Writing (Girls’ Too) and ‘Programming Made Easy’ to countries across the world whilst writing articles for various education magazines and publications. In 2017, David was contacted by Lee Wilson, the Executive Principal (Outwood Primaries) as their current ICT scheme of work wasn’t working for them, had become stale and didn’t allow the teachers to exploit cross-curricular opportunities. When asked by Lee “To write a scheme to wow the children and be aspirational” the Mr Andrews Online Creative Computing Curriculum was born. Since this time, David Andrews has been working with a leading Multi Academy Trust as Director of Curriculum. This has led to the development of a World Class Creative Curriculum as well as continuing to innovate in the world of Ed Tech and drive Mr Andrews Online forward. Chris Williams continues to consult with Mr Andrews Online alongside driving the world class product – Chatta, which works on the fundamental approach that oracy unlocks literacy. Field Breaks started out in the Autumn of 2007 to provide a selection of professionally tutored illustration workshops in the Peak District. This followed the demise of similar workshops in the area and filled a much needed gap for people wanting short affordable art breaks in botanical illustration and landscape painting. Such was the demand for this provision that over the following years the programme has been extended to include a greater selection of courses and venues, along with a growing number of specialist professional tutors. 2020 and the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic saw great challenges to all small businesses, including Field Breaks, with courses rescheduled for safer times. This was an opportunity however for founder member Sue to think seriously about her achievements, goals and ambitions, and after some deliberation decided to pass the business on to fellow artist Hazel. Along with many happy memories of running Field Breaks, Sue is enjoying the opportunity to start new projects. With the handover, Hazel decided to revitalise the old website - "I'm re-dressing the shop window while it's quiet!" Following suggestions from her peers, this also gave her the opportunity to re-think and amend the name from "Field Breaks" to "Field Breaks Art", which lends more focus under the artwork umbrella. We hope you like it! After the extended lockdown, Hazel added a new range of on-line mini workshops in the Spring of 2021, which were a lovely way to keep connected with other artists and share ideas. From July 2021 we were once again able to offer in-person workshops so the focus was to deliver quality tutor-led courses while maintaining a level of safety, including reduced class numbers to enable social distancing. In 2022 we are pleased to be able to offer another full programme of workshops in drawing, painting, botanical illustration, natural history, landscape, abstract, and mixed media including textiles and craft workshops in batik, jewellery making, lacemaking and felting. In the Winter of 2014, Pole Place opened its first studio just South of London in West Sussex. A second studio followed shortly after north of the border in the heart of Glasgow’s city centre. Founded by Ruby Rose Jackson in her hometown of Horsham, Pole Place’s original home was on the second floor of a popular bar on Piries Place - B52’s. Ruby had long dreamt of opening her own Pole studio having become hooked years earlier. Qualifying as an instructor, and with an ever-growing Pole skillset combined with a natural passion for teaching and inspiring those around her the initial idea of Pole Place was firmly at the visionary stage. Like any new business, funding was required to move it from the ideas stage to cutting the ribbon. With the studio as the inspiration Ruby began to fly as cabin crew with British Airways. Without revealing the un-glamorous side to air travel, on many random nights in many random places, hotel rooms all around the world became Ruby’s office - any spare minute she could find would go into business planning, designing, developing and creating her dream - Pole Place. Her dedication eventually paid off and she was able to leave her full-time post flying to finally open Pole Place’s studio doors. Pole Place initially began with a handful of clients. Steadily growing within the first couple of years, the Horsham studio later moved into our larger, current home on Church Street in Warnham. In 2016, a change in Ruby’s personal life presented her with a family move to Scotland. This gave way for an ideal opportunity to open a Pole Place sister venue on West Nile Street in Glasgow’s city centre which provides our Scottish “hame”! At Pole Place, we are extremely proud to have created a safe space for anyone to come and step out of their comfort zone and into an exciting new world. Where hair is flicked, confidence is boosted and dreams are made. Growing over the years, we have had the pleasure of teaching thousands of clients across both our studios. With nine instructors within our team, we are honoured to provide support and inspiration to all of our clients.
