Founded by Cliff Bura in 2008, Diesel Gym was born in an area steeped in a rich combat sports history – London’s East End. Throughout its existence it has prided itself in developing international competitors and champions across all of disciplines its practices – true “school of excellence”. From its Muay Thai practice which grew from the legendary Grandmaster Sken’s Sitnarong camp to Eddie Bravo’s world famous 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu system (a no-gi specific grappling system designed specifically for MMA and utilised consistently by many competitors in promotions such as the UFC, Bellator and ONE Championship). Its wrestling practice and system is one Diesel has developed throughout the years to succeed in the MMA arena. All our Martial Arts practices are supported by Excel Strength & Conditioning who are there to build and maintain strong healthy athletes. While Physical Defence Physiotherapy are there as our inhouse physiotherapy support to bring members back to full fitness when needed. Despite Diesel’s long and successful competitive history, the majority of its members train for purely fitness, self defence or personal development reasons. Complete beginners are welcomed and nurtured as importantly as its professional athletes in a true community spirit. In 2019, Diesel Gym became a non-profit organisation, investing profits back in to its own community projects in Newham in areas such as sports for all, mental health wellbeing and youth crime.

Through an official crowdfunding campaign, we are trying to raise £10,000 so we can install solar panels. This will reduce our carbon footprint and fuel costs – so we can focus on training lifeguards and beach safety. Did you know our volunteers provided 500+ hours of beach and water safety cover in 2022,Crowdfunding this project builds wider community support for the club and provides us the opportunity to access further match funds to the project. We have been in discussion with Cornwall Council who are looking to support this project as part of their work supporting communities to reach net zero by 2030, and installing renewable energy in the county. In the long term, all these measures will help reduce our energy costs and improve the operation of the clubhouse, meaning we can focus more of our efforts on future activities for the community – supporting health and wellbeing, developing life saving skills, and awareness of the beach coastal environment.

We also work closely with a bank of associates with varying specialisms in Positive Behaviour Support and other evidence based therapies. These specialisms include: Personality Disorder, Acquired Brain Injuries, Dementia, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Feeding Disorders, Alternative Communication Systems, Research, Active Support, Wellbeing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy & Practice Leadership. This means that if there is something we don’t know, we can usually find someone who does! We consider ourselves fortunate to have links with a strong network of people ranging from people who use services, families, support workers, social workers, senior operators, clinicians, academics and commissioners. We even know an ex fighter pilot who is involved with a fantastic charity that supports people with disabilities to fly planes!!! All of these individuals have helped us shape PBS uk into what it is today and many of these people feel like part of the team to us! This affects not only their wellbeing but their ability to care for the natural world and how they apply the skills they develop as they grow up to the environmental challenges we face. Based in London, The Hive delivers Accredited Forest School Training that focuses on innovative ways to engage pupils in Forest School, particularly in urban environments where access to outdoor space is constrained. We provide Level 2 Forest School Assistant and Level 3 Forest School Leader training, as well as Forest School Taster Sessions. Here at Communicate-ed we are passionate about seeing people developed to their true potential. To that end, we provide practical, value-for money, relevant training for education professionals involved in the area of Special Needs We have a range of courses which cover a variety of roles at Secondary School and Further Education level. These include a brief overview for general staff, training for Teaching Assistants acting as Readers and Scribes, Invigilators overseeing exams, SENCos and Examination Officers organising support during the exam period, as well as Access Arrangements Assessors and Educational Psychologists assessing students. Our training for Language Modifiers is run jointly with the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors and offers accreditation for successful delegates. Our other courses include input on a wide variety of subjects related to the support of students with special educational needs including Dyslexia, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Dyscalculia and Behavioural Difficulties. We offer training for Access Arrangements Assessors including courses recognised by the SpLD Assessment Standards Committee for core CPD when updating SpLD Assessment Practising Certificates. We are also passionate about raising funds for charitable projects which support educational opportunities, particularly for those caught in poverty in the UK and overseas. To date we have been able to donate over £865,000 to a variety of causes.
