<p><span>A: The Practical Assessment </span></p>   	

<p>The practical assessment must be carried out by the Tutor during the relevant part of the course for all candidates. This is to ensure that every candidate can demonstrate their individual ability and correct method for thoroughly reviewing an enclosure, locating, and taking air samples and the correct use of PPE and RPE. The practical assessment includes: </p>

	<li>Full procedure for taking air samples </li>       				
	<li>Use of PPE and RPE and personal decontamination </li>  				
	<li>All four stages of the clearance procedure and issuing of a certificate for reoccupation </li> 			
</ul>  	

<p><span>B: Written Examination 1</span></p>

<p>This is an open-book examination comprising of approximately 35 (140 marks) short-answer questions illustrated by photographs and diagrams as appropriate to be answered in 120 minutes. The examination covers sections 1, 2 and 3 of the syllabus with achievable marks in proportion to the time allocation given on the front page of the syllabus and is overseen by a BOHS invigilator. The overall pass mark is 55% with a requirement to reach at least 45% of the available marks in each section of the syllabus. </p>

<p>This is an open-book examination comprising of approximately 35 (140 marks) short-answer questions illustrated by photographs and diagrams as appropriate to be answered in 120 minutes. The examination covers sections 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 of the syllabus with achievable marks in proportion to the time allocation given on the front page of the syllabus and is overseen by a BOHS invigilator. The overall pass mark is 55% with a requirement to reach at least 45% of the available marks in each section of the syllabus. </p>

This new course, RP402 Refresher - Surveying and Sampling Strategies for Asbestos in Buildings, replaces P402RM and P402RRD. <br /><br /> RP402 Refresher enables candidates to revise and update their knowledge on all types of asbestos surveys, and to receive a certificate of course completion by passing a written examination, which covers both the theory and practice of surveying for asbestos in buildings. </p>

<h2>Course Details</h2><p>Overview of the CITB HSA Course 
The CITB Health and Safety Awareness (HSA) Green Labourer Card CSCS course is for those who have entered, or are about to enter, the construction and civil engineering industry as a member of the workforce to help them understand the potential hazards that they face at work on site.

Assessment
Assessment will be by multiple-choice question paper at the end of the course. Learners are also expected to actively participate during the course. The examination paper consists of 25 multiple-choice questions selected by CITB, 20 questions are worth one mark each and 5 are worth two marks each. The examination pass mark is 83% (25 out of 30). 

Length of Course
This is a one-day course. Delegates are required to complete the full day (7.5 hours) to be eligible for certification. 

The HSA course in Stoke on Trent is the first step towards a CSCS Labourers Card (Green Card) and to the progressive CITB Site Safety Plus courses. Our courses range from operative training, Supervisor, Site Manager and Director Health and Safety courses.

			            <p><span>The main subject areas of the course are:</span></p> 			<ul>  				 				<li>Set up of phase contrast microscope.</li> <li>Filter preparation.</li> <li>Fibre counting.</li> <li>Air sampling equipment, sampling strategies and collection of samples</li> <li>Calculation of results.</li> <li>Quality control.</li> <li>Reporting and communication.</li>  				 			</ul>   			
<p>Candidates are required to pass all of the following parts (A, B and C below) to be awarded the module:</p> 	

<p><span>A: The Practical Assessment </span></p>   			
<p>The practical assessment must be conducted by the Tutor during the relevant part of the course for all candidates. This is to ensure that every candidate can demonstrate their individual ability and correct method for: </p> 			
<ul>      				
	<li>Setting up air sampling equipment and collecting samples</li>   
	<li>Mounting and clarifying the filter on a microscope slide</li>  
	<li>Setting up the microscope and required quality checks </li>  
	<li>Analysing samples and providing accurate fibre counts </li>
	<li>Understands the full range of air sampling strategies that may be required in relation to asbestos work.</li>
</ul>  			

<p><span>B: Written Examination</span></p>   			

<p>This is an open-book examination comprising of approximately 30 (120 Marks) short-answer questions illustrated by photographs and diagrams as appropriate to be answered in 120 minutes. The examination covers sections ALL sections of the syllabus with achievable marks in proportion to the time allocation given on the front page of the syllabus and is overseen by a BOHS invigilator. The overall pass mark is 55% with a requirement to reach at least 45% of the available marks in each section of the syllabus. </p>             

<p><span>C: Practical Examination</span></p>   			

<p>This is an open-book examination which requires candidates to count eight prepared microscope slides that are supplied by BOHS in a time allowance of 4 hours. Candidates will be expected to achieve at least an equivalent to RICE category B performance or better on all slides with a one slide exception. </p>

Candidates will preferably have prior experience of analysing fibre count samples and may already be participating in a quality control scheme. In addition, candidates are expected to have had training to cover the core competencies outlined within the foundation material detailed within Table A9.1 of HSG248 Asbestos: The Analysts' Guide (July 2021). This may be achieved by In -house learning or through the P400 foundation module.
