Professional but Personal...Steve has been a passionate SCUBA diver since completing his PADI Open Water course with Fins Watersports, Hull in 1996, predominantly diving UK waters for the next 8 years. In 2004 Steve was posted to Cyprus with the British Army where he completed his PADI Advanced Open Water course with Alpha Divers, Larnaca. Whilst based in Cyprus Steve owned his own boat and extensively explored and dived the coastline of Eastern Cyprus and fell in love with the MS Zenobia Shipwreck. Steve qualified as a PADI Rescue Diver with Seastyle Divers, Worcester in 2011 and decided at this point that he wanted to become a PADI professional. Prior to retiring from the Military in January 2017, following an extremely eclectic 22-year career. Steve completed his PADI Open Water SCUBA Instructors course with Coral Bay Divers, Paphos in September 2016. Following retirement from the Military Steve then spent the summer season of 2017 as an Instructor for Coral Bay Divers and qualified as a Master SCUBA Diver Trainer in September 2017.

We are pleased to offer a variety of AHA (American Heart Association) courses at all of our locations in both Instructor-Led (Classroom) and Blended Learning formats. Classroom-based Courses Heartsaver Courses – Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED is geared towards anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for their job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements or anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a course completion card, valid for two years. Please contact your employer to ensure that you are selecting the correct course. Heartsaver can be completed as CPR/AED only, First Aid only, First Aid and CPR/AED, or Pediatric First Aid and CPR/AED. This course is a video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage an emergency until emergency medical services arrives. This course uses AHA’s research-proven practice-while-watching technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback, and guide the students’ learning of skills. Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider – BLS is geared towards prehospital providers, like EMTs, paramedics, fire fighters, and in-facility hospital providers. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a course completion card, valid for two years. Please contact your employer to ensure that you are selecting the correct course. The BLS Instructor-led course teaches both single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for application in both prehospital and in-facility environments, with a focus on High-Quality CPR and team dynamics.

Sholfins Swim School CIC is a not-for-profit company born from a passion and love for swimming. We are extremely passionate about our community. Our aim is to try and remove as many barriers as possible, preventing our community of Redditch from learning to swim. The team at Sholfins recognise that due to the pandemic there has been a huge impact on children having access to water in their early years. A number of primary/middle schools have also been unable to provide this life skill to their pupils prior to the pandemic for several different reasons, therefore, falling short of the national curriculum requirements, through no fault of their own. Swimming and water safety has been a statutory element of the national curriculum for physical education in England since 1994. This means that every 11-year-old child should leave primary/middle school with the skills to keep themselves safe. Swimming lessons provide all children with vital skills to help with survival and this is no different for children with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND). By 2025, over 780,000 children with SEND will be in the education system. However, inequalities in the ability of schools and teachers to offer high quality opportunities for them to participate in PE, School Sport or Physical Activity still exist, with disabled young people twice as likely to be physically inactive as non-disabled people. The focus on the new revised Ofsted inspection framework is also an area of consideration for schools to bare in mind. At Sholfins we believe everyone should have the opportunity to learn to swim. All of our instructors are Level 2, Swim England qualified and have RLSS Lifeguard, First Aid and Safeguarding Qualifications. The team are passionate about teaching and ensure that each child is given the support and encouragement to become water confident no matter what age. We are registered with Swim England and follow the learn to swim programme and the School Swimming and Water Safety charter.
