Bobby joined us a month into our Building Resilience in Communities project in Clyne, Neath. Bobby had previously been working as a carpenter until the pandemic hit in 2020 and had since struggled to find employment. With a move to Wales and the realisation that he didn’t have the relevant paperwork to support his skills, Bobby’s self-esteem and motivation to find work had plummeted.The Community Impact Initiative C.I.C. As a carpenter Liverpool has been very good for me within the last few years due to the increase in personalised and customised furniture. However, another carpentry and woodworking service that has been very popular within the last few years especially has been the growing popularity of alcove and walk in wardrobes. Since both types of wardrobe projects are considered luxury and high end for most houses, many home owners are beginning to look for having one of either within their home. As a carpenter, this is one of the most expensive and biggest projects that we complete. It also means that it is a good opportunity to make a decent amount of money, and both the customer and us as a company win with a transaction such as this. I have had the opportunity to take many wardrobe creation projects within the last few years especially, and the demand for the wardrobes are only increasing. Projects like these can cost anywhere from £2,500 – £7,000 depending on the size of the project, especially if you are looking to create a more elaborate walk in closet for example. Some people decide that they want to turn their en-suite bathroom or even a spare bedroom into a walk-in closet if they have a lot of clothes or shoes but no need for the room itself. This isn’t as uncommon as you may believe, due to the amount of families that are deciding to not have children. With the number of gardens in Liverpool, it is also becoming common for many home owners to request the creation and construction of garden furniture such as benches and picnic tables. Many times, they want the furniture to be created from either a specific timber, or they want a specific carving or engraving within the furniture itself. This is more common with something such as a picnic table, where customers want what they would consider a posh picnic table. Other times, some customers are more artistic and just want a carving or engraved pattern within the table itself. This itself is an enjoyable project for carpenters, as it is rare to create something that others would consider a piece of art rather than just furniture. Thank you for reading today’s post. i am yogi

I AM YOGI is the story of wanting to build a yoga community. The company was co-founded by myself and Vittoria Manca. After practising yoga together for many years at various studios, we wanted to give it a go ourselves! In 2016, I decided to leave my career as a secondary school teacher and complete my yoga training in Goa, India. On returning, teaching in the local gym just wasn’t enough and the vision started to brew. The origins of I AM YOGI started in a space called ‘The Glasshouse’, which was essentially a conservatory on a pub car-park in Moseley. The weekly schedule started there. Wind the clock forward 18 months and the purpose-built wooden cabin that now stands in Moseley Park, was The Glasshouse re-envisioned. The cabin was constructed by a local carpenter and friend, Jim Jones along with many helping hands from parents, close friends, extended family and local stakeholders. Today, I have a dedicated team who work hard behind the scenes, from our CABIN CREW to our outstandingly dedicated TEACHING TEAM. The community that I AM YOGI serves and continues to create is special - and now even extends out into the virtual world since the pandemic! You can practice YOGA AT HOME with us from anywhere, anytime! The work we continue to do is for every yogi that continues to show up and practice with us.

Woodwork and design have been lifelong interests of mine. My introduction to woodwork was with my father in his workshop at home. I studied woodwork, together with metalwork with Ted Mills in Maidstone and had regular lessons from Chris Hoad our local village carpenter in Marden, Kent. Woodwork runs in the family, I inherited my great grandfather’s tools and the workbench – a number of which which I use. I draw inspiration from many sources: the Design Museum is a particular favourite, but skilled work is all around. Recently I took part in a ‘Build a Tiny House’ course at the Centre for Alternative Technology. Their commitment to sustainable living is particularly important for me.I attend courses, exhibitions and trade shows regularly to keep up with the latest trends and developments. I established WoodWorks in September 2016. Our approach is practical, and we put our clients’ priorities first – be they design, practicalilty, affordability, aesthetic or sustainability. Wood is a wonderful material, flexible, strong and incredibly versatile. Most things are possible. If you’ve got a project in mind and want to find out whether and how it will work, I’d be happy to talk it over with you. In September 2020 I established Woodworks Learn, the teaching arm of the business. This was long an ambition of mine, using my background in teaching, coaching and informal community learning. I find immense pleasure helping people to develop their skills and to complete projects.
