We are an online tutoring agency founded in 2020, specialising in connecting tutors who are interesting in teaching tailored lessons online, to students wanting to grow their academic skills. We are registered and based in the UK, but work internationally to connect English speaking tutors with domestic and international students, with a majority of our core business specialising with Chinese students. Age ranges for students can vary from 4 years old to mature students, with tailored lessons being from early foundation English, Mathematics or Science, to GCSE and University academic tuition, for example preparation for the Cambridge or IELTS exams. As our students, and often their parents, expect well prepared and taught online lessons, we aim to work with experienced and qualified tutors. Sugar Storm has evolved with me as I’ve learnt, failed, experimented, struggled balancing working three jobs and running a business, supported my mental health, (and not supported my mental health) but at the heart of it has always been a love of the alternative, an encouragement of self-expression and a desire to be a little bit different. I created Sugar Storm as a call to arms, to encourage you to choose differently. Choose the things that feel like you, choose clothes that make you feel good the moment you put them on and every time after that, choose companies who are transparent, who support the things you support, choose yourself over and over again. Sugar Storm celebrates DIY, self-expression, unconventional living and embracing the things that make you unique. All those things that were at the heart of the business in the very beginning continue to shape the work I do. Over the course of 2022, and in large part due to the TOW development project and Metal residency for allowing the space to do so, I began to refocus and rebuild Sugar Storm Studio. This meant moving away from fashion and exploring new possibilities for my art practice, workshops, tarot and physical events. In 2023 I am focusing on creating new independent art projects and developing new ways to nurture creativity and empower unconventional individuals.

After gaining her Arts Degree from Sheffield City Polytechnic, Janet set up her silversmithing business in London where she was based for ten years. She moved to Berkshire where she has stayed, initially becoming Jeweller in Residence at South Hill Park Arts Centre and now teaching her own classes in Woodley. She has been making and teaching jewellery for over 40 years and has had the pleasure of seeing her students enjoy learning about jewellery making and some of her students have chosen to go on to run their own jewellery business. Her designs concentrate on form and technique. Flow, texture and carving informs most of her work. She likes her work to be timeless, enhance the body and come to life when worn by the owner. Her work continues to be exhibited here in Britain and abroad, has featured in a variety of publications including Vogue and is part of the contemporary jewellery collection at the Dallas Museum of Art, USA.
