Gtg Training

The Glasgow Training Group was established in Kirkintilloch, Glasgow, in 1971, with the aim of delivering high-quality apprenticeships across the West of Scotland for the automotive industry. The company, which was created by an automotive retail consortium including Sir Arnold Clark, brought about much-needed change for apprentices and the entire industry, and introduced a varied and innovative training programme that would grow to become one of the most respected in the UK. Purchased by the Arnold Clark Group in 2003, the business soon became known as GTG Training Ltd. and expanded its offering to provide high-quality training courses and education across a wide range of disciplines, such as Business Skills, Computer & IT, Health & Safety, Transport & Logistics and Automotive Technical. With £50million of investment since 2004, GTG now owns five dedicated training centres – in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Wolverhampton. At the very core of the business lies a deep-seated passion for providing high-quality apprenticeships. We recognise the importance of investing in the future workforce and our aim is to give learners the skills and experience they need to succeed in the automotive, transport and health and safety industries. GTG hears the voice of its stakeholders and is always considering how best to meet their needs, including clients, learners, delegates, staff, the Board and the wider industry. That’s why we consistently reinvest our profits to provide flexible and effective workspaces, up-to-date technology, relevant and modern equipment, dedicated staff and more. The growth of the business has coincided with a number of important milestones – becoming the official provider of fleet services and volunteer training for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games; a visit from Prince Charles in 2015 following our involvement with Prince’s Trust Get into Cars initiative and our Training Provider of the Year award at the 2019 Talent in Logistics awards. With the approval of many prestigious bodies, such as SQA, IMI, RHA, ILM, FTA, City and Guilds, GTG has defined its position as one of the UK's most innovative, experienced and qualified training providers.

Silverburn Park

Leven

Silverburn is the former estate of The Russell family who were owners of the Tullis Russell paper making business. The land was originally part of the Barony of Durie and was leased to Mr David Russell by Charles Maitland Christie of Durie in 1854. A dower house known as Corriemar was also built and a flax mill was established on the site. David Russell died in 1906. His son, (also named David) and who later became Sir David Russell was born at Silverburn in 1872 and in 1912 married and went to live in Aithernie House. He returned to Silverburn in 1929. Sir David had a great interest in trees and many were planted including some rare and unusual species which continue to thrive today. In 1973, Sir David Russell’s son, Dr/Major Russell (Head of Tullis Russell Papermakers) gifted the houses and grounds to Leven Town Council, but also stipulated through the National Trust for Scotland that the “subjects should remain forever as a quiet area used for the benefit of the public in general and the people of Leven in particular for nature trails, quiet parkland and organised camping”. In the mid to late 1980s, the former Kirkcaldy District Council undertook a Job Creation Programme to reinstate Silverburn House for use as a Residential Centre for groups to use such as scouts and guides; school parties, caravan rallies etc. A stand alone wing to the rear of the House was used by crafters to make and show their wares throughout the Summer and Christmas/New Year periods. Silverburn Park Between 1990 and 1999, an average of 20,000 + people per year visited Silverburn. Its main attraction was the former “Mini-Farm” which had on show a wide range of domestic and exotic animals, birds, reptiles and insects. However, following a Council policy decision in 2002, to cease operating Animal Centres across Fife there have been very few visitors to Silverburn, other than local people. Financial constraints have also led to year-on-year reductions in revenue expenditure with no meaningful capital investment in the Park. Over the years, various ideas have been proposed for Silverburn including the setting up of a Scottish Music/Arts and Craft Centre and redevelopment as a crematorium. None of these have come to fruition.

Money is at the centre of our lives, but very few of us have been taught how to understand it or manage it. With over 30 years’ experience in financial services, Dennis offers clear, practical guidance on how to address the common problems associated with money choices, patterns, and the day-to-day management of money issues. We have a responsible and unique person-centered approach using professional decluttering, life skills and home organisational skills. We provide an ethical, sustainable and quality approach throughout our work which includes the use of our 8-step plan, support groups, coaching, research, education and training. We also work collaboratively with other professionals and organisations in contact with these individuals and families. Jo Cooke is a Director of ‘Hoarding Disorders UK – Community Interest Company’ and also runs her own business ‘Tapioca Tidy’. She is also the author of the book “Understanding Hoarding” which is fast becoming the “go to manual” for hoarders, their families and agencies that work with people exhibiting hoarding behaviours. She has appeared in the Guardian newspaper, Take a Break magazine and other publications. She has also appeared a number of times on BBC Radio and in a BBC documentary ‘Inside Out’. Jo was selected as a finalist for the Thames Valley Venus Awards’ Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018. Jo previously had a varied career in charitable organisations, human resources, project management, bookkeeping and the civil service, but realised she had a flair for decluttering and organising when she had to sell the family home that her father had lived in for more than 30 years. She has a wealth of experience and skills required when working in cluttered environments and takes a responsible and empathetic approach to the needs of people she works with. Jo runs three hoarding support groups in Bracknell, Newbury and Reading, Berkshire.
