The Veterans Forge C.I.C was set up to help Veterans in the community get therapy via blacksmithing. We work with BLESMA, SSAFA ROYAL, BRITISH LEGION plus others, that include people with Autism and Aspergers. (this is NOT a boot camp), non-military instructors and guest blacksmiths. All are welcome. We have 1 to 3 plus instructors on-site to support you.

An axe making course is a fantastic way to learn about an ancient craft and create a tool that will last a lifetime. Over this two day course you will learn the basics of forging as well as the more advanced techniques of punching and drifting the axes eye as well as isolating mass and steel movement. Once the axe is forged as close as possible to shape we will heat treat and talk about the science and workings of why we do this and then its over to the belt grinders to refine a final edge, the last step is to shape the handle and fit it to your axe! The three day course allows us to focus on the more refined shapes of a knife specifically designed for cooking, on this course we will forge a matched pair of knives, a small pairing knife and a larger kitchen knife both with a hidden tang and two part handle in the Wa style. The extended length of the course allows students to focus on getting a clean shape and flowing lines as well as a thing and practical blade for cooking.
