I am fortunate enough to be the Principal of Homefield College and am delighted that you have found your way to our website to explore the many opportunities that the College provides to support people with learning difficulties and / or disabilities to lead fulfilling lives. Homefield College was founded in 1987 as a long-term residential provision for people with learning and communication difficulties. We have since expanded our offering with specialist further education and training, supporting both part-time and full-time day and residential students. The College now offers a range of individualised vocational education programmes based within local communities. All programmes are tailored to the needs of each individual with the starting point being that they feel safe in the environment that they are in. Once this is achieved it allows our staff to work with them to develop and improve their skills to enable them to live more independently once they leave the College. You will see on the website details of the activities that we provide which put together make up a study programme. Our education provision is based upon our belief that young people achieve through experience and this is reflected in the activities provided in our programmes. Students will undertake work experience and we hope that for some of them this will lead to a supported internship. Beyond the education provision, we also offer residential experiences for those who would like to further develop their independent living skills and this can often provide a period of respite for the student’s family. Homefield also provides a range of services for those who remain as part of our lifelong learning provision. These include: long-term residential care, supported work experiences, day services and community enterprises. The Blue Coat Foundation consists of a federated Infant and Junior School and Secondary Academy The Blue Coat Foundation is unique in Walsall, offering a Christian education for children from the age of three through to nineteen. Whilst the Federated Infant and Junior school and the Academy are distinctly separate buildings they are within two hundred metres of each other and are historically bound by a shared belief in the value of a good Christian Education. Many visitors to Brecon walk to the Usk bridge from where they can photograph the Beacons. In the foreground is a group of buildings which are also worth the visitor’s attention. At the entrance to these buildings a board tells the visitor this is Christ College, founded by royal charter in 1541. That is only half the story of this site which has been occupied for over seven hundred and fifty years. The history of Christ College falls into three unequal periods. For three hundred years it was a Dominican friary; in 1541 Henry VIII established a school here and finally in 1855 the modern ‘public’ school was founded by Act of Parliament. The surviving buildings reflect each of the three periods. The Dominicans were friars who first came to Britain in 1221; they are first mentioned as being at Brecon in 1269. Given that range of dates and the evidence of the surviving medieval buildings, it is likely that the friary was founded c.1250.

All our programmes are delivered by independent subject specialists who also have outstanding training skills. We have rigorous standards and refuse to work with anyone but the best trainers. Our extensive network means that we have a choice of trainers to offer for all of these subjects, partly to ensure the best ‘fit’ between trainer and client and partly so that we can resource large-scale ‘roll-out’ programmes when required. We use a core team of around 40 associate trainers, with about another 150 specialists available on an ad hoc basis.
