WEST is a small charity with a big aim: to inspire girls and women to study and work in non-traditional trades and careers like engineering.Wendy Miller “I was the first full-time female student to study engineering at Sheffield College. After employment as a draughtsperson and engineering project manager, I have worked in education since 2004. I am now Learning and Teaching Lead at the AMRC Training Centre, run by the University of Sheffield, which delivers Engineering Apprenticeships from Advanced to Degree Level. I joined WEST because I believe passionately that we need to actively change women’s perception of STEM careers – and men’s perception of women in engineering! There is a world of opportunity out there for young women and we are missing a lot of talent.” Pat Morton (Chair) Pat Morton (Chair) “I spent 20 years in the construction industry as a surveyor and another 20 years in Higher Education working in equality – particularly gender equality – in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) and built environment. When Ros Wall died we wanted to do something active to remember her. She was a real activist so we decided to set up WEST and support a cause dear to Ros’s heart.” Saj Parveen Saj Parveen “I undertook a foundation course in engineering at Sheffield College / Sheffield Hallam University, followed by a degree in engineering, and then a postgraduate certificate. I’m now a senior lecturer in mechanical design engineering. I love developing and inspiring the next generation of engineers and especially keen to see more women becoming engineers, which is why I got involved with WEST.”

A charity focused on serving the asylum seeker, refugee, and local community throughout the central Liverpool area. Since 2018 Bridge2 has been supporting people who are escaping persecution and war zones; assisting them as they transition into a purpose-filled life in the UK. We offer a variety of services such as: English classes and cultural classes, skills workshops and art workshops

We don't run hard core survival courses although some of our programmes are quite challenging. Our aim is to get people back out into nature and the outdoors and enjoy all the benefits it has to offer. We deliver a wide range of courses to suit all abilities and especially children whom often lack the space or opportunity to reconnect with nature. Where possible we accredit our courses through LASER Awards. Offering clients a clear path through their learning experience to new opportunities of work and play. All our instructors undergo rigorous training and are either already or studying to be qualified teachers and assessors. For all of our staff and directors this is not just a job but a passion and a way of life!

We’re a not-for-profit, voluntary organisation working with artists, young people and the local community to develop access to the arts at all levels in Mid Wales. The centre is run for and by artists, volunteers and good will. Entrance is free. Your donations are used to support our work developing arts awareness and involvement in the local and wider community, and buy art equipment and materials so that we can continue to expand the range, scope and quality of our vibrant artist led workshops, exhibitions and events.

Fire the Inventor runs practical automata or mechanical toy workshops for schools, colleges, science centres, museums and special events. The workshops combine art, science and technology Workshop are accompanied with a collection of moving toys and automata for inspiration, context and study Participants learn about the science of basic mechanisms and linkages while letting their artistic imaginations run free A crib sheet is available for those needing to quickly get up to speed with the basics of cogs, cams and linkages. Fire the Inventor designs mechanical interactives for exhibitions and learning, is an exhibition consultant and supplies educational kits. STEAM not STEM In the language of educators, Fire the Inventor is about adding a missing ‘A’ to STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, ART and Mathematics – STEAM). Fire the Inventor encourages a hands-on making, crafting, inventing, tinkering and repairing culture, and giving ourselves the time and opportunity to play around with a bunch of materials and (re)discover playful creativity.
