Welcome to the Liverpool Hung Gar Kung Fu Friendship Association website. Here you can find information about our club and also about the style of Hung Gar Kung Fu we teach. The word kung fu does not actually mean 'martial art', but instead 'skill that is developed through much time and effort', and our style of Hung Gar Kung Fu will require you, as a student, to undertake a certain amount of mental and physical discipline. To develop this you must have a willingness to learn, to discipline yourself, and most importantly be willing to train hard. school gateEach lesson lasts 2 hours and are developed to increase your fitness, health and vitality. You will be taught techniques and forms (set patterns of techniques) as well as developing strength, speed and balance. The Chinese Lion Dance is a large part of our club and you can also, as your training progresses, involve yourself in this aspect of training. Chinese New Year serves as an important time of year for the school. It's a very busy time in which we undertake a huge diversity of shows around the local area performing the lion dance, dragon dance and martial arts displays. I was interested in making and designing from a very early age and was intrigued by the intricate cake decorations that a family friend made in sugar. I was, and still am, always building and making things with my father who is an engineer and he repaired and made jewellery, so I had a little knowledge of the techniques he used in his loft studio. I studied art and design at Bath college with an amazing group of inspiring tutors and one of the pieces that I used in my application was a flower made from copper which was my first piece of soldering. When applying to universities I was breath taken by the silverware at the Buckinghamshire University degree show an knew from that point I wanted to work in metal. I gained a BA in Designed Metalwork and Jewellery from Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College where I was taught by an exceptional group of tutors who still influence my work today. This took me to become a fellow of the Bishopsland trust where I developed my range of stainless steel and silver jewellery while on the year residential programme. This was an excellent platform for me to learn all about how to start up a business and how to do craft fairs. Pope and Oliver along with the visiting tutors do an amazing job at this very unique programme.

Batik Experience Days in Derbyshire, UK Try your hand at the ancient art of batik. Using hot wax and an array of colourful dyes to produce textile and paper creations, batik is a fun and unique way to craft. The process of creating batik offers a journey of discovery and surprise. The applied hot wax saves an area of colour which then resists further applications of colour as the piece builds and changes before you. Learn how to develop motifs & pattern with each subsequent application of the waxing and dyeing process and be amazed at what is finally revealed once all the wax is removed! My name is Sue and I am an experienced artist and crafts tutor with many years practicing batik. Please see www.susan-rhodes.co.uk for examples of my batik work. Opened in November 2018, Attic Batik was originally housed in the Market Place of Belper’s historic former public house, The White Swan. Anne started academic life as a zoologist, having been ‘good at sciences’ at school. She moved into the world of accountancy for much of her career and is now a potter. Working with ceramics is a wonderful blend of science and art. There are many points in the process at which a pot can go wrong- cracking during drying, exploding during firing, the glaze not fitting; the list is almost endless. Those are mostly solvable through the application of science. A pot can also go ‘wrong’ because it simply doesn’t please the eye- the shape can be top heavy, a handle can be beautiful but wrong for the pot. Again, the list could be endless. However, the joy in a pot that works aesthetically and that has survived the brutal ceramic processes is a deep pleasure that makes the pursuit of ceramics such a pleasurable chase. Feeling, like many potters, that there is a life time of experimentation ahead of her, Anne particularly enjoys the experimental intrigue of clay. In recent years she has been exploring porcelain slip casting in natural forms, such as avocado skins, and the effects of rain on glazed, but as yet unfired pots. The scientist is never far below the surface. Anne works in her garden studio in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

We are a true multidisciplinary society largely made up from the specialties of gynaecology, dermatology, genito-urinary medicine and pathology. Our membership consists of doctors and nurses and we work closely with allied health professionals aligned to vulval disease. This multidisciplinary approach to the speciality enables excellence in clinical outcomes and workforce training. We have a strong commitment to education and training working with our medical colleges striving to achieve high quality standards of care for patients. Our membership currently stands at 288 health professionals from a variety of different specialities. The objectives of the society The relief of suffering for patients with vulval diseases The promotion of research into the cause and management of vulval diseases The practice, art and science of understanding, diagnosing and managing vulval diseases Achievements include: Hosting clinical conferences. Our annual two-day meeting was held in Salisbury in April 2018 hosted by Dr Abi Kingston. It was an excellent conference and 146 delegates attended Guidelines on Vulval pain syndromes (published British Journal of Dermatology). Contribution to the NHS Clinical Knowledge on pruritus vulvae for primary care and first contact physicians. Completed a Cochrane review on lichen sclerosus treatment. Funding and clinically supporting the James Lind Alliance Priority Setting Partnership to identify and prioritise the top 10 future research questions for lichen sclerosus.
