Description

Shakespeare Sessions are affordable, regular opportunities for actors to practise their craft by bringing a Shakespeare play to life. How often do you sit down and read a Shakespeare play from start to finish on your own? And wouldn't it be more fun to do it out loud with a bunch of other actors in a bar anyway? Bison Arts Collective wanted to create a space where actors can flex their Shakespeare muscles without having to commit to a course or formal training, which wouldn't break the bank each time. Shakespeare Sessions allow actors to practise, perform and play so that the next time a Shakespeare audition comes around you aren't quite so rusty. They're also an awesome way to meet like-minded thespians and a very fun way to spend a Tuesday evening - beers, bard, banter.

We hope to see you there!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How does it work?

Well, once everyone’s signed up, we allocate parts and send out casting the week before. We don’t ask you to read the whole play in advance (part of the reason we’re doing this is to eliminate the need to set that time aside on your own!) - but we DO ask you to familiarise yourself with your part, and make sure you understand your scenes, so that you can bring your A-Game to the reading and connect with other actors properly through the text when we’re in the room.

  • What's New?

We limited the number of actor spaces to 15 these days, with the aim of giving each actor a bit more to work with and to allow for us to offer more direction, ideas and feedback throughout the session. We hope this makes it all the more valuable to you all.

  • What if I just want to observe?

You're welcome to come along as audience for free!  Just email bisonartscollective@gmail.com to let us know.

  • Do you have a reserves list?

If we are sold out of actor tickets, you can sign up to our reserves list (free of charge!) as we ALWAYS get a few drop outs in the days leading up to it - actors' schedules can be unpredictable!  So, if you're happy to save the date and be given a part to prepare for last minute, we'd be delighted to have you step in.  Email bisonartscollective@gmail.com to be added to the list.

  • Are these sessions right for me?

These sessions are for actors who love Shakespeare or want to get more into it.  You don't have to have had any professional  Shakespeare experience, and it's absolutely fine if you haven't done any in ages, maybe even since school or drama school... But, this isn't formal training, it's practice.  So, if you've *never* done or studied any Shakespeare before, you might want to consider some beginners classes or a course that covers the basics first, as we do launch into the text pretty quickly and we keep the pace up.  Any questions or, if you're unsure, just email us.

  • What's the cancellation policy?

Cancellation Policy - you can cancel for free up to 7 days before the reading.  (Minus booking fees.)  If you have to cancel within 7 days of the reading, please email bisonartscollective@gmail.com ASAP to let us know so that we can reallocate your part(s) - unfortunately, at that stage, we cannot offer refunds.
