About this Training Course

This comprehensive 5-day course offers energy professionals a deep dive into the dynamic landscape of renewable energy integration and power system management. Participants will gain invaluable insights into the technical, operational, and financial aspects of working with renewable resources in the rapidly evolving energy industry. The course is designed to equip professionals with the knowledge needed for planning and operating power systems with an increasing penetration of renewable resources, addressing key aspects of operational requirements for an integrated, reliable, and stable power system.

The curriculum explores the unique characteristics of renewable resources from both local and system-wide perspectives, illuminating the paradigm shift in energy delivery to customers. A significant focus is placed on the technical challenges associated with integrating vast amounts of solar power into the electricity grid while maintaining the reliability and stability of conventional power systems. The course delves into advanced solar power forecasting methodologies, showcasing state-of-the-art techniques and international case studies to highlight the critical role of accurate prediction in managing weather-dependent generation.

Inverter-based resources, including photovoltaic systems, Battery Electricity Storage Systems (BESS), and demand response technologies, are thoroughly examined. The course emphasizes the crucial functions of these technologies in enhancing renewable penetration and optimizing customer resources. Particular attention is given to the contribution of inverter-based generators and BESS to power system stability and quality, covering aspects such as voltage support, frequency response, regulation, reactive power control, and power quality.

The curriculum also explores the role of microgrids and automated energy management systems in boosting energy resilience and efficiency. Additionally, Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) are analyzed from both technical and financial standpoints, including discussions on project financing and cost recovery strategies. This comprehensive approach ensures that participants gain a well-rounded understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the renewable energy sector, preparing them for the complexities of modern power system management.
