This course provides the theory, practical knowledge and skills required for use of microscopes and fibre counting to WHO rules, air sampling and four-stage clearance procedures. The course is based around 'HSG248 Asbestos: The Analysts Guide for Sampling, Analysis and Clearance Procedures'.
The main subject areas of the course are:
Health, safety and legal aspects relating to asbestos
Theory of air sampling, fibre counting and clearance procedure for asbestos analysts
Practical air sampling. fibre counting, and clearance procedure for asbestos analysts
Use of decontamination units and H-type vacuums
Candidates are assessed on their practical competence, which culminates in a written exam (short answer questions), which is set and administered in conjunction with RSPH. On successful completion of the exam and practical task candidates will be awarded a nationally recognised RSPH certificate
Who is this course suitable for?
Anyone who undertakes clearance inspections and air monitoring of asbestos as part of their work (e.g. asbestos site analyst)
Issues clearance certificates following asbestos clearance procedures.
Undertakes asbestos fibre counting and requires an understanding of the external processes used in air sampling.
Manages asbestos site analysts.
