Syllabus/Course Structure and Assessment

This course will provide staff with the practical knowledge and skills to carry out their duties in the event of a fire

The main subject areas of the course are:

• The true nature of fire
• Identifying and reducing fire hazards in the workplace
• Maintaining the fire safety provision in the workplace
• Action upon discovering a fire
• The role of the fire warden
• How to select and safely use an appropriate fire extinguisher for a particular fire type
• Making an assessment of personal safety in using fire extinguishers
• The course will be assessed using continual assessment
