Syllabus/Course Structure and Assessment

We have expanded our asbestos awareness courses to specifically cover the awareness of asbestos in soils, made-ground and construction and demolition materials. Essential for geotechnical engineers, plant operators, civil engineering contractors and ground workers.

The content of this course is designed to provide anyone whose work could foreseeably expose them to asbestos with sufficient knowledge to avoid putting themselves or others at risk, in line with regulatory requirements laid out in Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, and specifically for those working on land with potential asbestos-contamination.

The main subject areas of the course are:

• Identify the properties of asbestos and outline the history of its use
• Outline the health effects of asbestos
• Outline the types, uses and likely occurrence of asbestos and asbestos containing materials (ACMs) in buildings and plant and also in land and soils, and the difference in appearance and identification in soil
• Identify the main statutory provisions that relate to asbestos, and how these apply to land and soils
• Know the correct procedures to follow in an emergency

Online specifics

The tutor will send an invite to the delegate, via Microsoft Teams or Webex, 1 week before the course and BOHS will send an email to the delegate with exam access via the Eva exam system.

A webcam, microphone, study area free of distractions and a good internet bandwidth connection are required for online training.
