CLASS DESCRIPTION:

The Actors Door Studio offers taster acting classes for beginners to the acting technique we teach, BEAT.

WHAT IS BEAT?

BEAT stands for Beck Emotional Access Technique and is the acting method we teach at the studio. BEAT is derived from the Meisner Technique but is distinct in philosophy and approach from Meisner’s method.

BEAT was developed by the studio’s founder and director. It is a practical methodology for accessing emotions thereby allowing you to play characters who behave differently to you and who experience the world differently from you.

At the core of BEAT is the idea that actors are able to disengage their emotional truth (or, emotional energy) from things in their own world. From there, they are freely able to apply emotional truth to things in the character’s world. By ‘things’, we mean places, objects, people and events. What will I do in the classes?

The classes are a perfect taster session for our courses.

You will be introduced to practical exercises such as the ‘Actions’ Repetition Exercise. The exercise will help you unlock emotional truth by working on actions and behaviour in a practical and dynamic way.

At the beginning of the session, the teacher will spend time introducing to the foundations of our acting technique. Concepts such as ‘emotional truth’, ‘dynamic actions’ and ‘Actions’ Repetition will be explained to help ground you in BEAT.

The taster classes operate on an open basis. Students at all levels are welcome to join. If you are an experienced actor but have never studied BEAT before and would like to, these classes are the best place to start.

If you are an absolute beginner, and you have never acted, this is the class for you!

(YOU ARRIVING LATE MEANS YOU ARE LITERALLY INTERRUPTING SOMEONE ELSE'S ON-SCREEN TIME OR PERFORMANCE. SO PLEASE BE COURTEOUS AND RESPECTFUL. YOU WOULD NOT APPRECIATE IT IF THIS WAS DONE TO YOU:)
